Held annually at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, the PhotoPlus Expo has been gathering photographers, enthusiasts, educators and photography and filmmaking aficionados for the last thirty years. This year is no different as PhotoPlus Expo will continue the tradition by presenting more lively talks and keynote presentations. It will live up to its billing as among the industry’s most informative. The distinguished speakers will cover some of the more pressing issues and topics in modern photography and photojournalism today aside from providing creative juices to those who will attend.

Here is the schedule of PhotoPlus Expo’s Keynote Presentation:

Thursday, October 30 – 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

“A Day without News”

Listen to real-life members of the ‘Bang Bang Club’, as the VP for Getty Images Photo Assignments Aidan Sullivan along with AP Director of Photography Santiago Lyon and AP Photojournalists Lynsey Addario, Ron Haviv and Antonio Bolfo, as they invite the audience’s interest by asking the question “will there soon be a day when it is simply too dangerous for journalists to work in global conflict zones?” Their presentation is anticipated to initiate a dynamic and free flowing conversation – one that will remind audiences about the more than 1,000 journalists killed while covering conflicts in the world’s hot zones. Buoyed by the recent headlines concerning the Middle East and Ukraine, there is no better time to talk about this topic than now.

Friday, October 31 – 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

British street photographer Martin Parr has been called as “chronicler of our age“. Presenting photographs peppered with “criticism, seduction and humour“, Martin Parr stood as among the few photographers today that carries an authentic and unique style. Always thinking out of the box and making statements about society through his photographs, Parr has succeeded in highlighting mundane activities in a brand new light courtesy of his edgy signature high-saturation and close range style. In his Keynote, Martin will share the ideas behind his projects laden with satirical view of our world and how it affects us in expressing ourselves, as well as his recent gigs as an editor, curator and fervent chronicler of photography books.

Saturday, November 1 – 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

After gaining worldwide success with the band Ben Folds Five, Ben Folds have charted a successful career as a solo singer-songwriter, record producer and a collaborator for various symphony orchestras. When not busy creating music, Ben is an avid photographer and in his session, he will speak about his passion for photography and how it correlates with his overall creative invention as an artist. When asked about his style of photography, Ben simply explains “I tend to photograph things on the upbeat rather than the downbeat,” he says. “In that way, it’s possible that my music captures notes and my photographs capture the rest. Images always speak for themselves.”
