Short of living in turtle necks (hello JLo) or having major surgery, creating a defined and lifted contour around the jawline and lower face, is the holy grail of anti-ageing.

This is after all the area that no make up or heavy handed use of bronzer and highlighter can trick into looking good. Skin firmness is about muscle and collagen structure and given this starts to break down from your 20’s, after mid to late 30’s most women are scouring the cosmetics halls looking for anything that has the words ‘firming’

and ‘lifting’ in bold.

What is Ultherapy?

The treatment is non-surgical and effectively lifts sagging skin from these areas of concern, stimulating the body’s own natural healing process to lift the skin over time, in only 90 minutes – the perfect ‘lunch time’ treatment. With no after effects, you are able to return to your regular day immediately.

How does it work?

Taking the opposite approach to lasers, Ultherapy works from the inside-out approach to lift and tighten skin non-invasively. With various options in the market, the speciality of this treatment is that it can penetrate up to 4.5mm – the same foundational layer that is addressed in a surgical facelift.

The skin’s response stimulates the growth of fresh, new collagen and elastin, revealing a gradual lifting and tightening of the skin over 2-3 months, without the requirement of chemicals or injections thereafter.

Dr Joseph Hkeik, Clinical Director and Founder of All Saints Cosmedical Clinic, says “Bahar recently underwent Ultherapy treatment – a unique non-invasive anti-ageing treatment designed to lift and tighten the skin. While the visual results are subtle, as Bahar had minimal laxity to start with, the action from the treatment will continue working to prevent sagging of the jawline and skin on her lower face as well as rejuvenating the quality of Bahar’s skin.

What are the results?

“As a result of her treatment, Bahar’s jawline has been firmed and lifted and appears more defined and smoother. Bahar’s nasal fold has also been refined and subtlety lifted. Ultherapy encourages the skin to produce higher levels of collagen and elastin, giving her skin a more youthful and refreshed appearance.” Says Dr Joseph Hkeik

Is this treatment for everyone?

The treatment is best suited for those with mild to moderate sagging of skin on the face, loose neck skin and wrinkles on the chest/décolletage. The procedure is ideal for both women and men who wish to maintain a natural degree of firmness in their jawline and neck, to minimise wrinkles and lines in their brow and décolletage region.

“Technology in the area of aesthetic facial treatments has improved dramatically over the last 15 years but what was lacking was a non-surgical option to treat loose skin on the neck and facial laxity around the jawline.   Thanks to Ultherapy, we can now treat these key areas, in just one treatment, so that we have beautifully rejuvenated necks, jawlines and décolletages.” Says Dr Joseph Hkeik

RESCU Road test:  Our Founder and Editor put the treatment to the test

“Looking for my own lunchtime face lift solution I sought expert advice from Dr Joseph Hkeik, RESCU’s resident anti-ageing svengali on the options available for people who are not yet ready for invasive treatments.

He suggested I trial the Ultherapy system which is pretty much like a lunch time facelift. The pain factor is around a 7 (think hot elastic bands being flicked around your jawline) but there is almost no downtime and if you take a strong painkiller ahead of the treatment,

it’s not too bad at all.

Keep in mind this is an ultrasound treatment that is going to show results over time. The core of the treatment is stimulating through ultrasonic waves the underlying collagen and elastic fibre network and getting in deep to wake them up. After 6 weeks I was photographed and you could see the beginnings of a more defined jawline and a firmer

neck but after 3 months the visible results are impressive. Not just for toning and sculpting but also my overall skin tone is better and will continue to improve. I do definitely see a result and whilst no one has said ‘wow your neck and jawline looks firmer’ I have certainly

had my share of complements on my skin and that I look very good for my age.. great outcome!

The lower half of the face is treated in about one hour and the cost is $2500. I’ve been told for my skin and condition, the results can last for up to 2-3 years and it’s a worthwhile investment if you consider the alternatives and the fact that the

treatment actually works.”

RESCU Recommends: If you are not ready for this level of spend or perhaps it’s not quite

where your skin is at right now but you still want a firm and sculpted look, I recommend the Clinique Sculptwear range (a serum and a mask to held firm and contour the skin without breaking a sweat) and definitely  use it with the clever massage applicator specifically designed to attach to their Sonic system. The surgical grade steel head will massage the the mask and serum into the skin with a focused and sonic with the detachable head. I am using this as follow up to my ultherapy and find it both relaxing and definitely good for maintaining my skin’s tone and firmness.
