When Gov. Dannel P. Malloy disclosed his $40 billion, two-year budget to lawmakers last week, he stirred alarm and dismay among agencies that learned they would lose funding.
Amy Wynn, executive director of the Torrington-based Northwestern Connecticut Arts Council, said the cultural, arts and tourism community will suffer "truly catastrophic" cuts.
The governor proposed adding $4 million to the Arts Commission budget but, by eliminating line-item allocations, total funding for arts and cultural organizations would be reduced $3.9 million. Tourism districts would be eliminated.
