NEW MILFORD
Returning to a New York City home is of little consequence for many refugees of Hurricane Sandy, the behemoth storm that a year ago ravaged the tri-state area. That's because a temporary move to a makeshift village by Faith Church has created desires of permanent residency.
Guill Hernandez and his family want to stay in town. So do Victoria Ledeneva and her family. And Dennis Klaus. And Maryann Zaino.
They are a few of the more than 30 people occupying the mobile home park at the northern end of the church's Route 7 campus. The ad hoc neighborhood — a $550,000 project that was built quickly and with private funds after the church partnered with the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation — opened two days before Christmas 2012 as a one-year haven for some who lost everything two months earlier.
