Casa Colina Centers for Rehabilitation recently welcomed board certified physiatrists from the Rehabilitation Associates Medical Group to the Casa Colina healthcare team at its 20-acre hospital and rehabilitation campus in Pomona, Calif. All the doctors are Clinical Professors at UC Irvine and include Ann T. Vasile, MD, Diemha T. Hoang, MD, H. Richard Adams, MD, and Fred Batkin, MD.

In a Casa Colina news release, Felice L. Loverso, PhD, president and CEO of Casa Colina, voices the organization’s excitement in the addition of the rehabilitation physicians to its patient care team, “Casa Colina places the importance of quality clinicians above all else, and the addition of these top doctors further promotes that concept. We are extremely proud to have these well respected physicians on our campus and look forward to the quality of care they bring to our many inpatients and outpatients,” Loverso says.

Vasile, MD, who has been appointed Casa Colina Medical Director of Rehabilitation, adds “We are honored to join Casa Colina’s talented clinical staff at its state-of-the-art healthcare and rehabilitation campus in Pomona. Its reputation for quality care in the field is well-deserved and we look forward to a successful future of collaboration in these high standards of service.”

Vasile places a focus on neurological and spinal cord rehabilitation and is certified in spinal cord injury (SCI) medicine. According to the release, Vasile is also a Paradigm Medical Director and manages catastrophic SCI cases nationwide to maximize patients’ outcomes. Her certifications include Electrodiagnostic Studies, Lower Limb and Spinal Orthotics, Principles Prosthetics Training and Physician Management Training. Vasile holds a medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and completed her residency at New York University’s Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and University of California, Irvine. She has also been recognized among US News and World Report’s “Top Doctors.”

Hoang, who is Casa Colina Program Director of Traumatic Brain Injury, specializes in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other neurological disorders. Hoang holds a certification in vestibular rehabilitation and after obtaining her medical degree at McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, completed her residency at the University of California, Irvine. Hoang also serves as an associate clinical professor at UCI Medical Center and has participated in a range of clinical studies targeting innovative, new treatment protocols. She also has also received honors that include “Southern California’s Super Doctors” and “America’s Top Physician Awards” for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine.

Adams serves as a mentor for Casa Colina’s rehabilitation physicians and works to connect them with vital resources in order to enhance patient care. The release notes that Adams holds more than 30 years of experience in medical rehabilitation, with his expertise spanning from neuro-pharmological agents, to spasticity management, and the continuum of care for catastrophic injuries. He is also involved in brain injury research for the National Institute of Health and is a Paradigm Medical Director. Adams, the release states, is a regular speaker at medical symposiums focused on topics that include pediatric/adult brain injury rehabilitation, marketing ethics, vocational rehabilitation, spasticity, the effects of managed care on rehabilitation, and the continuum of care. He has been recognized as US News and World Report’s “Best Physician,” and was nominated for “Excellence in Health Care” by ABC Channel 7/MemorialCare. Most recently, the release says, Adams was named “Person of the Year” for B.R.A.I.N.

The release notes that Batkin offers key clinical insight and administrative support to Casa Colina’s rehabilitation physicians and administration. Batkin previously served as the director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Orthopaedics at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for more than 20 years, as well as the director of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center’s Pain Management Program for nearly 10 years. Upon graduating and obtaining his medical residency from the University of Hawaii School of Medicine, Batkin completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of California, Irvine, where he has served as an associate clinical professor for more than 25 years.
