Everest Collegiate High School & Academy, a Catholic School in Clarkston, Michigan, was honored November 4, by Rep. Mike Bishop. The congressman visited the campus and presented the school with a Congressional Award commemorating the school’s 2016 distinction as an Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School.

As a member of the United States House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, Mike Bishop provided some context as to why Everest serves as an example for other schools around the country during an all school assembly in recognition of the award.

“Your teachers don’t wait to create enthusiasm to learn—it starts early…Your focus on integral formation is part of that. Your focus on the intellectual and the spiritual is an important part of your personal growth. It is that kind of personal growth that makes your school what it is,” said Bishop as he addressed students and faculty.

In addition to these latest achievements, Everest has been recognized as a Catholic Education Honor Roll School of Excellence since 2012 by the Cardinal Newman Society, an organization that promotes excellence in Catholic education across the United States.

According to Greg Reichert, Principal of Everest Collegiate High and Middle Schools, “We are very pleased to have received this most recent distinction as a National Blue Ribbon School and subsequent Congressional Award. These awards, in conjunction with our recognition by the Cardinal Newman Society as a Catholic Education Honor Roll School of Excellence, speak to Everest’s dedication to the fulfillment of a comprehensive Catholic mission.

“It is our responsibility as a Catholic school to provide the best education for our students, preparing them as successful leaders ready for a life-long pursuit of truth, while ensuring that this education is framed by the tenets of our faith and supported in an environment that fosters a love for Christ and His Church. These prestigious awards serve as an endorsement of Everest’s success in fulfilling this critical need in our modern culture,” said Reichert.

Everest is one of 50 private schools in the U.S. and the only private school in Michigan to be awarded 2016 National Blue Ribbon School Honors as announced by U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King in late September. The coveted honor is further enhanced by Everest Collegiate High School & Academy being the only Pre-K through 12th grade educational institution in Michigan to win the award across both the public and private sectors.

Everest is also in the top 5 percent of Catholic high schools in the U.S. as recognized by the Cardinal Newman Society in a range of categories including school identity, academic achievements and civic education. The school has received this distinction repeatedly since the graduation of its first Senior Class in 2012.

Everest Collegiate High School & Academy is an independent, private Catholic school from Pre-K through 12th grade offering gender specific education on a co-ed campus. The school provides an authentically Catholic educational experience designed to develop leaders who are capable of utilizing their strengths, so they can fulfill the unique plan that God has for each of them.
