WASHINGTON, D.C. – Efe Poturoglu, an attorney and shareholder based in Butzel Long’s Washington, D.C. office, received the Power Player of the Year Award from Washington SmartCEO magazine in the category of Immigration Law. The award is part of the magazine’s Power Players program, which honors attorneys, certified public accountants (CPAs) and bankers who embody leadership, accomplishment, innovation and success in their fields.

Poturoglu was honored during an awards event on November 18 at Longview Gallery in Washington, D.C. There were 50 finalists and 13 were selected to receive the award. He will be profiled in the December 2013 edition of Washington SmartCEO. The finalists were chosen by SmartCEO’s editorial team that evaluated each nominee based on their industry involvement, community contributions, innovation and leadership. Power Players of the Year were chosen based on video and essay responses telling of their passion, dedication and leadership within their professions, firms and community.

Poturoglu focuses his practice on business and family immigration matters, including all types of temporary visas (including H-1B specialty occupation and E-2 investor visas) and permanent residence (both family and employment-based green cards).

He also provides legal advice and assistance to corporate clients with the transfer of business persons to the United States (including L-1 Intracompany Transfer Visas) and development of corporate immigration policies and strategies.

Poturoglu handles a wide variety of civil litigation matters with a particular emphasis in business and commercial disputes. His business litigation experience encompasses such areas as: labor/employment, breach of contract, fraud and business torts.

He is a frequent speaker on business immigration to educational and business organizations in the Washington, D.C. area. He regularly appears as a legal expert on the Turkish-American Television and various National Turkish TV stations to comment on business and family immigration matters. In addition, he is frequently quoted in the U.S. and Turkish press regarding developments in immigration law.

Poturoglu received his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2003, where he was a member of the Georgetown Journal of International Law. He received his undergraduate degree in International Business from the University of Denver in 2000.

He is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia and Maryland. He also is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the nation’s leading immigration law association. He currently serves as the Washington, D.C. Area Liaison to Turkish Resource Center of North America, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting business, educational and cultural collaboration between Turkey and North America. Poturoglu is fluent in French and Turkish.
