When the first Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie debuted in 2001, Angelina Jolie was twenty-six. We think she was born to be the video game heroine come to life on the silver screen.

If producers are looking to cast the recently announced Tomb Raider reboot around the same age, we have a number of choices to be considered.

Then again, we stretch it a little bit with a few of our choices because we think they have the talent to embody the role and take it to the next level -- some older than Jolie was when she debuted as Croft and some younger.

We present many choices for the casting director depending on what direction they want to go in. Is this an experienced Tomb Raider or a Lara Croft who is just starting her adventures?

Who makes our list?

Watch The Hunger Games online and that star is a pretty obvious choice, but is it the best one? We think if they went the more experienced Lara Croft route, watch Edge of Tomorrow online and that scene stealer would be impeccable.

Click through and discover our 13 choices to play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot!

13 Actresses Who Could be Lara Croft

1.
Lauren Cohan

For fans of The Walking Dead, you are all too familiar with how the former farm girl turned zombie killer can kick ass. For those of you who might not know Lauren Cohan, the British actress has appeared in smaller roles in smaller films before getting her big break on the AMC smash hit. With the show only shooting a dozen or so episodes at a shot, she would have the time and lord knows she can nail the British accent of Lara Croft. She would make a most fascinating choice for the Tomb Raider reboot.

2.
Emma Watson

Emma Watson might be an odd choice. With her petite frame, maybe it might not be the name that pops right to mind when thinking of Lara Croft. But, if you look at the rebooted video game, she kind of has a likeness to that character. But after doing a ton of movies in one franchise, Harry Potter, we’re not sure she’d be ready to do another. Plus, she just agreed to be Belle in Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast.

3.
Hayley Atwell

For fans of Captain America: The First Avenger and now Agent Carter on TV, there can be no better choice to play Lara Croft than Hayley Atwell. She can do action with the best of them, and she’s British, so there’s that.

4.
Gemma Arterton

We think a fantastic choice would be Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters star Gemma Arterton. The woman can act circles around most of her contemporaries, but rarely gets the chance. What she showed in the Hansel & Gretel movie has us believing that they could do quite well with casting the also British Arterton.

5.
Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis would be an out-of-the-box choice. Sure, she shares a hair color with Lara Croft, but that is probably it. She might be too short for the role, but who cares about that? She can do action, but the big question is, can she do an accent? Angelina Jolie killed it with her British accent in the first two Tomb Raider movies -- we’re just not so sure that Kunis can.

6.
Jennifer Lawrence

After retiring the franchise The Hunger Games, maybe Jennifer Lawrence would be willing to pick up that bow and arrow again to play Lara Croft. She does have that other franchise, X-Men, going forward and she might want to keep stretching her wings as an actress (like in roles that got her an Oscar -- Silver Linings Playbook -- and a subsequent Oscar nomination for American Hustle) which might keep her from saying yes. But, after seeing her in action, we know she would literally kill in the role.

7.
Olivia Wilde

It seems like every time a female action hero is mentioned, Olivia Wilde’s name gets mentioned. But, she never has gotten those parts. Maybe things change with Lara Croft?

8.
Gina Carano

The former MMA fighter Gina Carano could make an interesting argument for being Lara Croft. She can kick ass like no one else on this list, but can she act? She has grown greatly as an actress since her debut in Haywire, but add in doing the accent, hmmm…

9.
Emilia Clarke

The Game of Thrones star (and soon to be seen in Terminator: Genisys) would make a unique Lara Croft. Clarke would truly channel the brainy part of the video game character come to life on the big screen. And as we’ve seen on GOT and soon in the Terminator reboot, those who cross her pay the price! Sounds like Lara Croft to me!

10.
Elizabeth Olsen

Elizabeth Olsen may be the most talented of the actresses, acting-wise, on our list of those who could be Lara Croft. But with her role as Scarlet Witch in the Avengers series keeping her busy, she might not have the time. But, if JLaw can do two franchises, why can't Olsen? We know she can do the accent. We know she does action. We know she’d be an awesome Lara Croft.

11.
Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt was supposed to be Black Widow in the Marvel series of films, but passed on the role that eventually went to Scarlett Johansson. After what we saw her do in Edge of Tomorrow, we think Blunt should be right at the top of the list of those thought of for Lara Croft. The only thing, it truly depends what direction this reboot is going -- if they want to go really young, or more experienced. If they started making the movies now, she’d be six years older than Jolie was when she went on her first adventure.

12.
Tatiana Maslany

BBC America star of Orphan Black Tatiana Maslany could be the wild card choice in the Lara Croft casting sweepstakes. As anyone who has seen her hit show can say, the actress is absolutely jaw-droppingly amazing. She tackles several roles at once and has a talent tool book unlike any other young actress working today.

13.
Chloe Grace Moretz

If producers of the Tomb Raider reboot wanted to go really, really young, might we suggest Hit Girl herself, Chloe Grace Moretz. The young woman is a supreme talent and she truly knows how to Kick-Ass.

The End.
