Series A

Tips and tutorials app Trusper has gained $6.17 million in a Series A investment led by DCM. Charles Schwab and other backers contributed to the round. The Los Altos Hills-based company drew upwards of 5 million active users to its platform while still in stealth mode. Trusper has since debuted on the App Store and Google Play, according to VentureBeat. Ten million tips are viewed daily on the platform, according to a press release.

Optio Labs has raised $10 million in a Series A investment from private backers and Optio Labs’ parent company, Allie Minds, Inc. The Boston-based company develops security and productivity technologies for mobile and embedded systems, according to a press release. Its customers include federal agencies, device manufacturers and commercial enterprises.  Visiongain gauged the worldwide mobile security market would hit $3.49 billion in 2013.

Polarion Software has received a $10 million Series A investment from Siemens through its venture capital unit, SFS VC. The San Francisco company has built the world’s speediest “enterprise scale browser-based application lifecycle management (ALM) solution,” according to a press release. The company serves more than 1 million users each day.

Series B

E-commerce software PrestaShop has received $9.3 million in a Series B funding led by XAnge Private Equity, Serena Capital and Seventure Partners. The company leverages offices in Miami and Paris and had previously secured $5.57 million in funding. PrestaShop’s revenues cleared $11.7 million for full-year 2013, a year which also saw “substantial profitability,” according to a press release.

Series C

Education company General Assembly has secured more than $35 million in Series C funding. Institutional Venture Partners led the round, while GSV Capital, Rethink Education, Western Technology Investment and Maveron contributed. The New York company serves more than 100,000 students, a number which counts upwards of 6,000 graduates of its courses.

Funding

London’s Quipper, which provides mobile learning solutions, has gained £3.4 million ($5.7 million) from Atomico, Benesse Holdings, Globis Capital Partners and other investors. Total backing behind Quipper now clears $10 million. Quipper’s CEO and founder, Masa Watanabe, also co-founded mobile titan DeNA. The company’s apps have seen more than 8.5 million global downloads.

Austin-based SolarBridge Technologies has wrapped a $42 million funding round. The investment was led by Constellation Technology Ventures and saw contributions from Shea Ventures, Rho Ventures and Prelude Ventures. The company leverages microinverters and monitoring technology for TrueAC solar systems, and advances solar energy adoption in both residential and commercial markets, according to a press release.

Redlen Technologies, which makes high resolution Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) semiconductor radiation detectors, has gained $5.5 million in funding. Pangea Ventures led the round while other investors like In-Q-Tel contributed. The Canadian company’s products are used in “advanced nuclear cardiology, nuclear breast imaging, nuclear surgical probes and in precision handheld dirty bomb detectors,” according to a press release.

M&A

Santa Clara-based Vobile, which deploys video content identification and management solutions, has announced its acquisition of Blayze. Los Angeles-based Blayze is a “YouTube analytics and content marketing” company. Financial terms were not disclosed.
