As a family we love technology and the children both have tablets. With LP now at school we’ve been thinking of introducing her to a laptop or computer at home and when the Venturer EliteWin was sent to us to review it couldn’t have been better timing.
The Venturer EliteWin 2 in 1 Tablet with smart keyboard is a great size notebook style, fully functional PC with Windows 10 pre-installed. With an RRP of £199.99, this little machine packs in a lot of awesome features for a very small price tag. It can used either as a laptop or the keyboard can be detached to use it as a large tablet computer.
For the more traditional of us, the Venturer EliteWin sports a great sized keyboard with clearly labelled function keys along with well spaced buttons that give a satisfying ‘click’ when used. They are really responsive with no lag or ‘stuttering’ when used with various Apps.
There is also plenty of processing power in the notebook with a 1.3Ghz Intel Atom processor and two gigabytes of RAM, plenty of memory for lots of apps to be open at the same time, running in the background. Combined with a 32 GB hard drive built in, there is plenty of space for the Windows 10 operating system and a large selection of music, movies, photos or documents. With a free one month trial of Office 365 for new customers, this little laptop hits the mark. Combined with a battery life of up to 8 hours, it’ll keep going all day.
One thing that I have found a bit distracting is the weight of the whole thing. It looks like it should be quite lightweight but when picked it, it turns out that it is actually quite dense, especially if you are using it in traditional notebook mode with the keyboard attached.
The weight is also apparent when using it in tablet mode. If, like me, you tend to hold your tablet with one hand and type on the screen with the other, then you might find the hand you are holding the screen with getting tired quite quickly. I have found myself often reaching for the keyboard to re-attach it to give my arm a break! But, you have to remember that this is a fully functional Windows 10 PC, ideal for use when you can’t be at your desk. The weight to full functionality trade off is worth a little arm ache. Think of it as a work out!
Connectivity is also fantastic for such a small device. The keyboard is very easily detached, but strong enough that you can’t do it accidentally. The transition from traditional notebook to tablet is seamless as is re-integration. No waiting around for it to be ‘safe to eject hardware’ or to restart the machine, it just does it.
Along with Bluetooth and Wifi, you will find a Micro-SD card slot, a mini USB port / charger, a microphone, headphone jack, standard USB slot and a 2MP Camera (front and back) all along one edge of the tablet unit. This means that you can use all of these features when in tablet mode. Oh, there is also an HDMI output too, so connecting your notebook to a big screen TV is all too easy.
As it is Windows 10, all of your content can be synced over Cloud storage so you can access your files wherever you can sign into your Microsoft account. All of these features are mindboggling on a machine that costs a fraction of the price of other similar spec notebooks.
In the past we have owned a Chromebook with was the same price bracket but with no storage space and no ability to install proper software on it. For anyone looking for a bargain price laptop with full functionality this would be a great investment – and there’s even a slightly lower spec version for just £149.99 too!
For now, Hubby has taken ownership of the Venturer EliteWin but will be using it to show LP the wonders of laptops – and who knows, she may even be doing her homework on it before we know it.
