It’s fair to assume that today’s update for Forza Horizon 3, which was intended to introduce the Rockstar Car Pack for players on Xbox One and Windows 10, did much more than that by doing so much less. First, the update went largely according-to-plan for Xbox users, but PC users were met with a full-game re-download (my queue personally had it at just under 59 GB). The build was halted server-side and Turn 10’s Brian Eckberg posted about it on the Forza forums advising users mid-download to stop and to not create new game profiles for fear of file corruption. What Eckburg obviously wouldn’t have told us consumers is that the build of, not update to, Forza Horizon 3 comes from within Turn 10 Studios. After a few hours, people who were successful in downloading the accidental release pulled it apart and code-picked, looking for spoilers, hints, and anything special.

What people were able to uncover were a rather sizable list of cars possibly slated to join Horizon 3’s garage lineup. The full list of cars include the 2017 Aston Martin DB11, 1959 BMW 507, 1971 Chevrolet Vega, 2013 Dodge Dart, 2017 Lamborghini “Bellissima”, 1969 Lola T70, 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, 1956 Porsche 356 A, 1956 Porsche 550 Spyder, 2012 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 (996), 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3, 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S, 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder, 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo, 1987 Porsche 959, 2003 Porsche Carrera GT, 2012 Porsche Cayenne, 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS, 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo, 2016 Vauxhall Corsa VXR, and 1983 Volvo 242 Turbo Evolution.

Needless to say, today’s update for Windows 10 was a development build, as players have gotten into cars like the Porsche Carerra GT and have diagnostics running across their screens in yellow text. But what today’s update tells us is that, while none of the cars listed above are guaranteed to be in an update in the future, the teams at Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games have been looking into adding some Porsche flair to Horizon 3’s Australia. Also, as it may need to be repeated: no, the Bugatti Chiron is not among the leaked cars, and it wasn’t among the files, screenshots below.

For now, we don’t know what the next update will hold, nor when exactly an update to fix the development build’s presence as well as add today’s Rockstar Car Pack to the game will be offered to users. At time of writing, Eckburg has yet to post another update regarding the situation on the Forza forums, and the Windows Store has stopped offering any updates for Horizon 3 on PC. Should that change, we’ll update the post linked here.
