The U.S. Border Patrol recently erected more desert rescue beacons near Tucson, beacons aimed at saving the lives of illegal aliens in distress.
Reports revealed on Friday that the new beacons are part of an effort dubbed the Blue Light of Life campaign. The effort is designed to alert illegal immigrants to the dangers of crossing the desert-like stretches of our southern border and to give them aid if they face life threatening situations while doing so.
“With assistance from the Arizona National Guard’s 2220th Transportation Company, 10 additional rescue beacons were strategically placed to save the lives of migrants in distress,” a government statement said.
Also as part of the campaign, the older beacons in the area were re-fitted with new signage, sun-reflecting mirrors, and high intensity blue lights that can be seen at night for up to ten miles. The ten new 30-feet-tall beacons bring the number of rescue stations to 32 in the Tucson sector.
As reported in the Arizona Daily Independent, “The Tucson Sector has had 83 rescue beacon activations resulting in the rescue of 142 persons. Agents have discovered 95 deceased individuals during the same time frame, a 44% decrease from Fiscal Year 2013.”
According to the human rights group Border Action Network, since October of 1999, there have been 2,602 illegal immigrants found dead in the Tucson sector. The group also claimed that even as apprehensions have decreased in the Tucson sector, the number of illegal immigrant deaths has “remained constant.”
The deaths have remained constant, the group asserted, because the U.S. Border Patrol changed its strategy to one making use of geography as a deterrent and concentrating on the easiest areas for illegals to get into the country. This has caused some immigrants to make their incursions using the more dangerous routes, which has caused the death count to remain constant.
The new solar-powered “desert beacons” join dozens of other beacons in such places as Yuma, El Paso, and the Rio Grande Valley. The U.S. Border Patrol has spent millions on these rescue stations. At one time, it was reported that each pole cost $3,000 to produce, but that does not include installation or maintenance.

Perry: ‘There Is No Homeland Security Without Border Security’

Fresh off his visit to the Heritage Foundation, Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s PAC dispatched an appeal to supporters slamming the Obama administration for inaction on the border and national security.
In his fundraising appeal, Perry explained his call for “comprehensive border enforcement,” as considering immigration reform does not make sense in the midst of “chaos.”
“Defending the border is not a political option. It is a constitutional obligation,” he wrote in his Thursday night fundraising email.
He added that growing strength of ISIS is due to “a lack of White House action.”
“No one had heard of ISIS in January. Now they are marching across Iraq in American tanks, using American weapons and ammunition, and taking cities like Mosul and Fallujah that Americans died to secure,” he wrote.
Perry further stressed the need to prevent ISIS from making its way into America.
“There is no homeland security without border security. We have come to one of those moments when American action will be decisive, and inaction just as consequential,” he wrote.
During his speech at Heritage, Perry warned “there is a very real possibility” that ISIS may have already crossed America’s unsecured southern border.

Gohmert Slams TSA for Allowing Illegals to Fly Without Valid ID Then Lying About It

HOUSTON, Texas – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently penned a letter that confirmed what Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon Darby reported back in July–the agency was allowing illegal immigrants to board planes using only Notice to Appear forms that they received after entering the U.S. illegally. The revelation directly contradicts the TSA’s previous allegations that Darby’s report was “completely wrong.” Reacting to the TSA’s letter, Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert told Breitbart Texas that the agency’s handling of the situation are both “egregious” and “destructive.”
“The TSA serves under and is accountable to the Commander in Chief, and this egregious, destructive conduct by the Homeland Security Department and TSA puts Americans at grave risk,” Gohmert said. “Why do we have to undergo groping, thorough review of our photo ID’s, and long infernal lines while the TSA is figuratively closing it’s eyes and waving people with no regard for U.S. law right onto airplanes?”
The congressman continued, “Maybe the President didn’t hear SOUTHCOM Commander, Gen. John Kelly, both times he made clear in Congressional testimony that the criminal networks and terrorist organizations penetrating our southern border are a threat to the very existence of the United States. That includes being a threat to whatever golf course the President happens to be on at the time.”
As Breitbart Texas previously reported, Notice to Appear forms do not adequately confirm an individual’s identity. Hector Garza, a spokesman for the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) told Breitbart Texas that the forms can be “easily be reproduced or manipulated on any home computer. The Notice to Appear form has no photo, anyone can make one and manipulate one. They do not have any security features, no watermark, nothing. They are simply printed on standard copy paper based on the information the illegal alien says is the truth.”
Prior to writing its letter of admission, the TSA insisted that Darby’s allegations were untrue. TSA Press Secretary Ross Feinstein attacked Darby and the NBPC on Twitter. After claiming that Darby’s report was “completely wrong,” Feinstein falsely complained that no one had “contacted us for a statement and/or info. before publishing story.” Darby responded to Feinstein with a screen shot, proving that he had, indeed, attempted to reach out to the TSA for comments before publishing his story.
Garza said, “”Ross Feinstein and the TSA higher ups should apologize to the NBPC and to Brandon Darby for reporting the truth. … Shame on Ross Feisnten and the TSA for lying to the American Public and for saying that border patrol agents, the NBPC and Brandon Darby were liars.”

Group Identifies Towns Associated with Releases of Immigrants Convicted of Homicide

The Center for Immigration Studies has tracked down the names of the cities and towns associated with the 169 criminal immigrants the Obama administration released last year.
In an analysis of the data by CIS’ director of policy studies Jessica Vaughan, obtained in advance of its publication by Breitbart News, Vaughan broke down the cities and states in which the zip codes land.
Thursday, Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley released a recent letter from Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealing the zip codes of most of the 169 immigrants convicted of homicide-related crimes who were awaiting deportation proceedings but released last year.
ICE provided the information after Grassley called on the Department of Homeland Security for answers earlier this summer following confirmed reports that ICE released 36,007 immigrants convicted of nearly 88,000 crimes last year. The criminal immigrants were all awaiting the outcome of deportation proceedings.
“ICE records show that these convicted killers were associated with 96 different cities and towns across America. The city with the largest concentration was Miami, with seven convicted murderers freed by ICE, followed by Los Angeles with six,” Vaughan wrote in her Friday analysis.
Based on the data analyzed, California and Florida had that greatest numbers of zip codes associated with aliens with homicide-related convicts released, 48 and 23 respectively.
“ICE states that 154 of the 169 aliens with homicide-related convictions were freed because of a court order, leaving nine releases that were at ICE’s discretion. This contradicts an earlier ICE statement saying that about one-fourth of the releases (or about 48) were discretionary,” Vaughan wrote.
“Some of the court-ordered releases are the so-called Zadvydas cases, where ICE must release or anticipates being ordered to release an alien because their country refuses to cooperate in the deportation process,” she continued. “Others are likely the result of a Ninth Circuit ruling allowing for bond hearings for aliens whose detention lasts for six months.”
Vaughan went on to note that it is interesting that ICE only noted that one of the convicts has left the country.
“ICE does not specify how many, or if any, of the released homicide convicts have been removed from the country. It states that only 131 have even been issued a final order of removal, and that one of the freed convicts was granted voluntary departure. That individual is the only one that ICE says has left the country. This gives the impression that the rest of the homicide convicts who were freed are still at large somewhere in the United States.”

Gallup: Immigration More Important Than Obamacare to Republican Voters

A new poll from Gallup has found that Republican voters think the immigration woe facing America is the most important issue in the country.
Of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters, the Gallup poll found that 22 percent believe immigration is the “most important problem” in America. Republicans rank the issue as more important than dysfunctional government, the economy, unemployment and healthcare—for which 20 percent, 17 percent, 12 percent, and 9 percent, respectively, said it was the most important.
Among Democrats, 11 percent believe immigration is the most important issue—making it their fourth-highest concern behind dysfunctional government, the economy, and unemployment.
Among all American adult voters, immigration is the second-highest important issue with 16 percent saying it’s the most important.
The poll comes in the wake of another recent poll from Tea Party Patriots, which found that 34.6 percent of GOP voters believe that stopping the flow of illegal immigration is the most important issue facing the nation—more important to GOP voters than getting to the bottom of the Benghazi or IRS scandals or halting Obamacare.
The poll also comes after Politico’s Jake Sherman wrote a detailed piece earlier this week about how neither side in a House race in Colorado are fighting on immigration—despite the political consultants who work for both previously girding for battle on the issue for the last year-plus.
“It was supposed to be here, in these diverse Denver suburbs, that the nation’s fiery immigration debate would dominate a competitive House race,” Sherman wrote from Aurora, Colorado. “The immigrant population is booming, evidenced by the more than 100 languages spoken at public schools here, the line of foreign flags displayed in the main atrium at City Hall and the bustling Latin and Korean restaurants that line the streets.”
But, he said, immigration is now “almost an afterthought in the tight battle between” incumbent Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) and Democratic challenger Andrew Romanoff.
Later in the piece, Sherman cites polling data that was “described” to him to argue that immigration isn’t a major issue among voters there.
“Internal, closely held polls demonstrate just how little voters here care about immigration reform. The sixth district surveys, described to Politico by multiple sources, show that the issue is not motivating either party’s voters to get to the ballot box,” Sherman wrote.
Sherman also quotes both Coffman agreeing with Romanoff that immigration is not a major factor in the race. “I think immigration is really important, but no, I don’t think that the race is any way a referendum on immigration reform,” Coffman said. “Not to say that it’s not important, but the race in no way hinges on that.”
Immigration, Romanoff concurred, is “a big issue, [but] it’s not the only issue.”
Coffman is a Republican member of the House who worked with now-former Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA) to try to insert illegal alien protections for those who would join the military into the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), something that led to Cantor’s electoral demise.
The Gallup survey was conducted via an aggregated sample of 2,001 American adults interviewed in July and August.
