Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) is slated to be the keynote speaker at an event honoring the notorious Ground Zero Mosque imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife Daisy Khan. Rauf and Khan are respected, even revered, in the mainstream media, and enjoy a reputation as moderate, reasonable, thoughtful, and wise. That reputation is undeserved. Like the host of the event, the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy (ICRD), they have extensive Muslim Brotherhood ties. Does Rogers simply not care?
Rauf’s sinister mien is not the only indication that he is not even close to being as “moderate” as the media is so desperate to portray him. He has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood is dedicated, according to a captured internal document, to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within.” Rauf’s book What’s Right with Islam says on the copyright page: “This edition was made possible through a joint effort of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and the office of Interfaith and Community Alliance of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). Funding for this project was provided by IIIT.” Both IIIT and ISNA are Muslim Brotherhood fronts, and ISNA was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas terror funding case.
The Arabic translation of Rauf’s book is a call to conversion from the pile of human remains at Ground Zero, disturbingly entitled, A Call to Prayer from the World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa in the Heart of post 9/11 America.
In his book, Rauf supports and justifies Sharia law, and calls for restrictions on free speech in America. He has written another book that has gotten little notice: Islam: A Sacred Law—What Every Muslim Should Know About Sharia. In it he explains why Allah’s law is superior to man made law–that is, why Sharia is better than democracy:
“The corruption of the individual or a society that abandons Sacred Law is amplified in one of the key Qur’anic passages regarding the relevance, evolution and meaning of Divine Law, (5:41-50) where Allah speaks frequently of the act of ‘judging.’ In this passage, God criticizes previous generations who ‘raced toward disbelief, among those who say with their mouths “We believe” while their hearts done believe;’ who ‘altered God’s Words from their placements;’ indicating somehow that they altered their divinely ordained Shari’ah, placing their own values above that which God had established. The Qur’an continues to describe them as ‘listeners of lies, devourers of ill-gotten property,’ an accusation that a Muslim tries carefully to avoid incurring.”
This passage is based on a section of the Quran, 5:41-50, that talks about “judging” peoples. It’s clear from the context that the “previous generations” are Jews and Christians who have now become “listeners of lies, devourers of ill-gotten property.” In other words, Rauf is condemning Jews and Christians in America and arguing obliquely that America should ditch the Constitution and adopt Sharia.
Rauf was also a “key figure in Malaysian-based Perdana Global Peace Organization,” which “helped sponsor the pro-Palestinian activists who clashed violently with Israeli commandos” on the jihad flotilla Mavi Marmara in 2010. Perdana, reported the New York Post at the time, was “the single biggest donor ($366,000) so far to the Free Gaza Movement, a key organizer of the six-ship flotilla that tried to break Israel’s blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip Monday.” A Muslim “charity,” the Foundation for Human Rights and Humanitarian Relief (IHH), launched those ships, and Fox News reported that IHH has links to terrorist groups, including Hamas and Al Qaeda.
Rauf also shows a reluctance to admit that Muslims were involved in Islamic terrorism. At one point he says: “And when we observe terrorism, whether it was done by the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka or by al Qaeda or whoever is behind the bombings in London or those in Madrid.” Remember: when he said this about the London and Madrid bombings, he was speaking five days after the 7/7 London jihad attacks and over a year after those in Madrid. It was common knowledge who the perps were at that time. But maybe Rauf didn’t want his listeners to be thinking about exactly who they were.
Rauf also praises the worst extremists and inciters to genocide. In his address in Australia he said he had just come from a conference in Jordan featuring “over 170 leading Muslim scholars from almost every part of the Muslim world, including some of the most important names like Sheikh Tantawi of Egypt, Sheikh Ali Gomaa, who is the chief mufti of Egypt, the chief mufti of Jordan, the Sheikh Al-Qaradawi, who is a very very well-known Islamic jurist, highly regarded all over the Muslim world.”
The late Sheikh Tantawi several years ago endorsed suicide attacks against Israelis, as did Sheikh Qaradawi. Sheikh Gomaa has defended Islam’s death penalty for apostasy and sanction for wife-beating, and has endorsed the jihad terror group Hizballah.
Moderates?
Rauf also says he wants a “one-state solution” for Israel and the Palestinians. Given his advocacy for Islamic law, that means an Islamic supremacist sharia state in which Jews are denied equal rights–when they aren’t killed outright.
Rogers should pull out of this event. The prospect of a Republican Congressman keynoting an event of a Muslim Brotherhood-linked organization honoring two unsavory Islamic supremacists shows the sad state of the GOP today.

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) has committed another blunder that may threaten his talk radio career before he even starts.
According to a Breitbart News column by Center for Security Policy President Frank Gaffney, Rogers will be the keynote speaker at an event held by The International Center for Religion and Diplomacy (ICRD), an organization with extensive ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The dinner’s guests of honor will be Feisal Abdul Rauf—the infamous “Ground Zero Imam” who refused to describe Hamas as a terrorist organization when scrutinized over his plan to build a mosque near the remains of the World Trade Center—and his wife Daisy Khan.
Gaffney sent a letter on May 21st “laying out the ties between the ICRD and various American Muslim Brotherhood fronts and leaders,” then urging Rogers not to attend:
While there is certainly no objection to qualified Americans, of any religion, serving in U.S. policy-making positions, it appears that members of the Muslim Brotherhood, a subversive terrorist organization with intimate ties to terrorism, are using the ICRD as a venue for an ongoing influence operation to manipulate U.S. policy. Your attendance at this event would risk further legitimizing this event to the detriment of U.S. national security.
Author and leader of the American Freedom Defense Initiative Pamela Geller wrote in 2010 of the Ground Zero mosque:
There is ample support for the idea that this Islamic Center is an insult to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. Throughout Islamic history, wherever they have conquered, Muslims have converted non-Muslim houses of worship into mosques and built mosques on the holy sites of other religions. The Dome of the Rock, built on the site of the Temple in Jerusalem, the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus built over the Church of St. John the Baptist, and the Aya Sofya mosque in Istanbul, formerly the grandest church in Christendom, are three notable examples among a great many. While at Ground Zero the mosque is not being built over the site of a synagogue or church, the same pattern of conquest and supremacism is in evidence: the World Trade Center site was a symbol of American economic power; the 9/11 Mosque is a symbol of the conquest of that power.
As House Intelligence Committee Chairman, Rogers has touted his national security expertise as a selling point for his upcoming three-hour talk show with Cumulus, set to begin in January 2015 after he retires from Congress. The appearance of “legitimizing” an event linked to Islamic extremists will not sit well with conservatives in Rogers’ potential audience members.
And the ICRD speech is not the first troubling incident for Rogers. Mere weeks ago, he wrote in the pages of the New York Times that his program would be a “more productive, you-might-actually-learn-something kind of talk radio,” an obvious dig at firebrand hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Less than a week later, the Associated Press profiled Rogers, saying he has “contempt for right-wing ideologues.”

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

The International Center for Religion and Diplomacy (ICRD) is a Washington-based non-profit organization that, like many working these portfolios, happens to have worrisome ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
It is, moreover, engaged in a top priority of what the Brotherhood calls “civilization jihad” – namely, interfaith dialogue. The Brothers cynically engage in such “bridge-building” in order to induce individuals and institutions of other creeds to provide them with political cover, thereby enabling subversive Islamist efforts to insinuate into this country the supremacist shariah doctrine – all in the name of religious freedom.
On May 30th, the ICRD will further display its true colors. It will have as its guests of honor at a gala fundraising dinner two preeminent stealth jihadists – Faisal Rauf and his wife, Daisy Khan. The couple gained international notoriety in 2010 when they sought to build a 15-story mosque complex in a building so close to Ground Zero that it was badly damaged in the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center.
The only surprise in all of this is the dinner’s keynote speaker: House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-MI).
Now, I am personally fond of Rep. Rogers. In the land of the blind that is our Congress – which is almost completely bereft of lawmakers who focus on national security, let alone provide leadership in that portfolio – he is the one-eyed man, for sure. He has been willing to tell the truth about the world becoming more dangerous when few in his party, let alone the Democrats in Washington, have done so. A former Army officer and FBI special agent, he has championed a strong defense and sought to stave off the throw-the-baby-out-with-the-bathwater impulses of legislators determined to dismantle the NSA in the wake of the Snowden treachery.
So, I wrote the chairman last week laying out the ties between the ICRD and various American Muslim Brotherhood fronts and leaders. These include: one of the Brotherhood’s preeminent fonts of ideological purity, the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT); the American Muslims for Constructive Engagement (AMCE), whose stated mission is to secure “the deliberate appointment of qualified Muslims to key advisory bodies and policy-relevant positions in government in order to shape U.S. policy choices”; and, through the AMCE, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). ICNA, ISNA and CAIR were listed as unindicted co-conspirators in the largest terrorism-financing trial in U.S. history: U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation, et.al.
Consequently, I urged Chairman Rogers in my 21 May letter to withdraw from the ICRD fundraiser: “While there is certainly no objection to qualified Americans, of any religion, serving in U.S. policy-making positions, it appears that members of the Muslim Brotherhood, a subversive terrorist organization with intimate ties to terrorism, are using the ICRD as a venue for an ongoing influence operation to manipulate U.S. policy. Your attendance at this event would risk further legitimizing this event to the detriment of U.S. national security.”
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Rep. Rogers has evidenced an inadequate appreciation of the civilization jihad the Muslim Brotherhood is waging inside the United States. (To read the Brotherhood’s secret plan for this jihad, see here.). Notably, in July 2012, he joined Senator John McCain and House Speaker John Boehner in criticizing Rep. Michele Bachmann and four other legislators. They had quite properly written five federal agencies’ inspectors general requesting investigations of the roles being played in shaping U.S. policies by individuals shown to be associated with the Muslim Brotherhood in this country (see: see Part 8 of the free, online course at http://www.MuslimBrotherhoodinAmerica.com).
This is a particularly bad time for the chairman of the House intelligence oversight committee to have a blind spot with respect to Islamist influence operations. After all, the Obama administration appears determined to admit more Muslim Brothers into this country as they are being rolled up in Egypt. That would be the practical effect of its recent decision to rewrite unilaterally and extra-constitutionally federal immigration statutes by allowing individuals to apply for refugee status if they have only engaged in “limited” material support for terrorism. Last week, a young Egyptian Brotherhood sympathizer, if not member, appears to be the first to have put this opportunity to the test.
In addition, as Adam Kredo observed at the Washington Free Beacon, the Obama State Department is continuing the embrace of Islamists begun while Hillary Clinton was in charge:
The State Department’s Counter Terrorism (CT) Bureau promoted on Friday a controversial Muslim scholar whose organization has reportedly backed Hamas and endorsed a fatwa authorizing the murder of U.S. soldiers in Iraq.
The CT bureau on Friday tweeted out a link to the official website of Sheikh Abdallah Bin Bayyah, the vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), a controversial organization founded by a Muslim Brotherhood leader “who has called for the death of Jews and Americans and himself is banned from visiting the U.S.,” according to Fox News.
Mike Rogers is right that the world is becoming more dangerous thanks to the rising capabilities and malevolence of global jihadists. The reality, however, is that the threat is growing in no small part because of the success jihadists are having in undermining our situational awareness and subverting our policies. We need Chairman Rogers for the remainder of his tenure in Congress to be part of the solution to that problem, not compounding it with his own case of willful blindness.

US Deploys Warship Carrying Marines Off Libya

“ICH” – “AFP” – - Washington (AFP) - The United States is deploying an amphibious assault ship with about 1,000 marines off the coast of Libya in case the US embassy must be evacuated, a US defense official said Tuesday.
The USS Bataan was to be in the area “in a matter of days,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The move was described as “precautionary” in case conditions in Libya, where militia battles have plunged the country into anarchy, worsen and require the embassy’s evacuation.
The State Department said last week that the embassy in Tripoli was operating normally despite an offensive launched against Islamist militias by a dissident general, Khalifa Haftar.
In addition to the 1,000 marines on board, the Bataan is equipped with several helicopters.
The United States also has available 250 marines, seven tilt-rotor Osprey aircraft and three refueling aircraft in Sigonella, Italy.
The precautions come amid ongoing controversy over a September 2012 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi in which four Americans, including ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed.

BENGHAZI Libya (Reuters) - The leader of Islamist militant group Ansar al-Sharia in Libya’s Benghazi city warned the United States on Tuesday against interference or it would face worse than the conflicts in Somalia, Iraq, or Afghanistan.
Libya’s young democracy is in turmoil three years after the NATO-backed war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi, with rival Islamist, anti-Islamist, regional and political factions locked in a complex struggle for influence in the OPEC member state.
Four decades of Gaddafi’s one-man rule left few institutions or national army to resist competing militias and brigades of former rebels who have become de facto power-brokers.
Ansar al-Sharia, listed as a foreign terrorist organisation by Washington, was accused of orchestrating the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi in which U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans died.
Mohamed Zahawi, head of the Benghazi brigade of Ansar al-Sharia, accused the U.S. government of backing renegade former general Khalifa Haftar, who has begun a self-declared campaign to purge Libya of Islamist militants.
“We remind America, if they intervene, of their defeats in Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia, because they would face in Libya something much worse,” he said in a statement. “It was America who urged Haftar to turn the country towards war and bloodshed.”
The United States has an embassy in Tripoli, but closed its consulate in Benghazi after the 2012 attack.
A former general under Gaddafi, Haftar earlier this month launched attacks with his irregular forces on Islamist militant bases in Benghazi because he said the government had failed.
Ansar al-Sharia also runs a network of social services in the city and has operated its own checkpoints.
Many Libyans are fed up with violence and Islamist militants accused of assassinations and bombings especially in the eastern city, and Haftar gained some support from regular army units.
But forces claiming loyalty to him also stormed the Tripoli parliament a week ago, and he demanded the legislature hand over powers in a further challenge to the vast North African country’s already stumbling transition to democracy.
Asked about Zahawi’s assertion that Washington was backing Haftar, a U.S. official in Washington replied: “That’s ridiculous, but coming from a terrorist, not unexpected.”
The U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the United States opposed political violence by all sides in Libya. “Our position is clear – political violence will not solve Libya’s political problems. We call upon all parties in Libya to work constructively and productively toward finding solutions to the current crisis.”
CHALLENGE TO STATE
Earlier on Tuesday, unidentified gunmen fired grenades at the Tripoli home of new Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeq, and his guards killed at least one assailant, just days after parliament approved his appointment in a contested vote.
Full details of the morning attack were not clear, but Maiteeq, who is Libya’s third premier in two months, was unharmed. “There were two cars and they fired RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) at his home,” a source from the prime minister’s office said.
A businessman from Misrata, Maiteeq won backing from an Islamist party and independents in a chaotic vote challenged as illegitimate by rival lawmakers and anti-Islamist factions including Haftar.
Some lawmakers and officials have demanded that Maiteeq’s predecessor stay on because the vote in parliament was not valid according to a justice ministry legal department.
Early elections have been called for June as a way to defuse tensions, but many Libyans believe they may not be enough to bridge deepening divisions over the country’s transition.
Worried that unrest may spill over into anarchy across the wider North African region, the United States and European Union have been helping train Libya’s nascent army. But constant turmoil has undermined programmes to forge an effective force.
At stake also are Libya’s large oil resources. They have been squeezed by months of blockades by an array of former rebel groups and local protesters whose demands range from more autonomy to better payments.
Ibrahim Jathran, a former rebel commander, defected from a state-run oil guards brigade with his men to take over four major oil ports last summer to demand more autonomy for his region.
Jathran had agreed to lift his blockade steadily under a deal with the government. But late on Monday he said he did not recognise Maiteeq’s government, suggesting the oil deal may be in jeopardy.
Port shutdowns by Jathran’s armed fighters and other protests have cut Libya’s output to 160,000 barrels per day from the 1.4 million it was churning out beforehand.
