According to Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Rao Inderjit Singh, 2.24 lakh homes have been constructed for urban poor under the old and new housing programmes during the last two years. These houses have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
Tami Nadu has built 37,355 dwelling units followed by Maharashtra with 36,992, West Bengal with 22,620, Rajasthan with 21,197, Gujarat with 15,861, Uttar Pradesh with 13,836, Delhi with 12,500, Madhya Pradesh with 12, 216, Karnataka with 7,663, Andhra Pradesh with 6,583 and Chattisgarh with 6,532 houses.
