If you follow my instagram or twitter, you know what I’ve been up to this past weekend. I was with the CabotFit Team in Maine to run the famous Beach to Beacon 10k and I had the time of my life!

I was so fortunate that Cabot Creamery chose me to be part of the #CabotFit Team. There is an application process and I still can’t believe that I was chosen for this year’s opportunity.

CabotFit 2015 Members:
Anne // Brianne // Whitney // Kita // Kelly // Myself // Deanna // Dianne

Cabot Creamery is a cooperative made up of 1,200 family dairy farms located throughout New England and New York, and 100% of their profits go back to their farmers. We know them best for their cheddar cheese, but it’s not just about the cheese. Cabot’s overall cooperative encompasses all of health and wellness, from their dairy cows, to their farmers & employees, and to their consumers.

CabotFit Team was formed to create a team with a group of individuals chosen by Cabot to join the dairy farm families in an effort to increase awareness about the importance of wellness through nutrition and exercise. The team ran the Beach to Beacon 10k.

But before I tell ya all about the race, I first have to fill you on all the fun adventures pre-race!

The flight was quite an adventure itself. Traveling from NJ -> ME is not a super long distance, but due to some thunderstorms caused a delay. We ended up boarding, getting off the plane, then boarding again. Just as the flight was all settled in, more thunder and lightning rolled in and we had to get off the plane for a second time. Third times (boarding) a charm right? I can’t even complain, Whitney and Kelly had quite the traveling journey.

Arriving a tad late to the first Cabot Fit Team dinner, I was welcomed with open arms. I was excited to see some bloggers friends that I’ve met before and was excited to meet some new ones. I’ve never been to Maine, so of course the first thing I had to order was a lobster roll!

And many more lobster rolls were consumed throughout the weekend. When in
Rome
Maine.

Joining (and racing with us) on this trip was Sara Wing, Cabot’s in house Registered Dietitian and Director of Health & Wellness for Cabot Creamery Cooperative and Regan Miller Jones, Registered Dietitian and Culinary Nutritionist for Cabot Creamery. You may also know them as the voices behind @CabotRD on Twitter.

We stayed at Higgins Beach Inn which was in walking distance from the beach. We walked to the to the beach that evening and watched the moon rise. The picture does not do this scene any justice. The moon was so bright and the skyline was beautiful.

The next morning was filled with a Cabot yogurt breakfast bar and to balance it out, Kita brought a whole bunch of Holy Donuts. I am not even a big fan of donuts, but these were amazing. Everything in moderation right?

We piled in to the Cabot van and headed over to Pineland Farms, which is a 5,000 acre working farm in Cabot’s network, for a tour. Cabot dairy farmer Jenni Tilton-Flood, shared with us all the #FarmLove throughout the Cabot farms.

We got to meet the famous Hemi, who has won quite a few awards!

And my favorite part of this farm tour, was meeting the baby calves.

It’s truly amazing how dedicated Cabot Farmer’s are. They are so passionate of what they do and dedicated to making sure their animals are taken care of. I’ve never seen a cleaner farm.

Later in the afternoon, we stopped to downtown Portland for a Beer & Cheese Tasting at Cabot Farmer’s Annex Store. Did you know Cabot makes cottage cheese too? Plus, I learned a new way to enjoy cottage cheese – add a little bit of Vermont’s pure maple syrup for a touch of sweetness, amazing! And of course, while I was there, I had a (more than a few) bites of my all time favorite.. Everything Bagel Cheddar Cheese!!

We all split off into groups to seek our perfect pre-race meals. I joined Deanna, Regan, and Anne for dinner back at Higgins Beach in for their amazing homemade fettuccine with salmon. It hit the spot.

I turned in early, because I was feeling a little bit of the pre-race jitters. Stay tuned tomorrow for a full race recap and a sweet GIVEAWAY!

A very special thank you to Cabot for this amazing opportunity. And if you love them as much as I do, vote for Cabot for the Best Food Factory Tour! You can vote every day through Aug. 17th!

Disclosure: Cabot sponsored my participation in the TD Beach to Beacon 10K, along with travel and accommodations. I was not compensated for my time. Opinions are my own.
