The Cyber Innovation Center (CIC), in partnership with the Riverside County Office of Education will be offering a two-day professional development workshop for middle school teachers and administrators. This workshop will showcase robust cyber and STEM curricula developed by the CIC’s team of university faculty, master teachers, and subject matter experts. Teachers are the key to systemic and sustainable change in education.  During this workshop, teachers will gain hands-on experience with curricula, projects, and technology that provide new, innovative ways to engage their students in entirely new ways! This transformation will provide greater opportunities for learning as well as introduce students to potential cyber and STEM career fields.

The highlighted curricula, STEM: Explore, Discover, Apply (STEM EDA), is a three-course elective sequence for middle school grades 6-8. In STEM EDA, students are engaged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through a series of hands-on projects. This approach allows students to not only improve their problem-solving and critical thinking skills but also develop invaluable competencies in leadership, team-building, creativity, and communication. Students begin by exploring STEM concepts, then transition to discovering fundamental concepts, followed by the application of the concepts. At each of these three stages within a module, cyber concepts are introduced and infused. Throughout the entire STEM EDA curricula, the engineering design process guides the students through design and implementation of the project and concepts.   Additionally, liberal arts disciplines and utilized to provide meaning and depth to the content and context of the modules.
