RCMRD conducted a one-week training on Geospatial tools for better land use and land cover monitoring to support GHG inventories at the University of Mauritius, Mauritius, from 13-17th June, 2016. The training aimed at equipping 22 participants with Geospatial tools and techniques for better land use land cover monitoring to support their third National Communication. The participants were drawn from the Ministry of Environment, The Forest Service, Ministry of Housing and Lands, Statistics Mauritius, University of Mauritius, Mauritius Sugarcane Industry Research Institute and Ministry of Agriculture. The training was held in high value, receiving Mr. Alain Wong’s (the Minister of Environment) recognition during the closing ceremony. Also in attendance during the closing were the Director of Environment- Mrs. Sin Lang Yun Wing, the Vice Chancellor, University of Mauritius- Prof. A. H. Subratty, and the Dean of Studies, Faculty of Ocean Studies- Associate Prof. Manta Devi Nowbuth. The training was conducted by Ms. Phoebe Oduor and Mr. Abdallah Siro.
