UK pop star celebrates becoming ambassador of Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity
Pop star Fleur East joined 250 seriously ill children and their families in Wembley for an afternoon of festive fun to celebrate becoming an ambassador for Rays of Sunshine, www.raysofsunshine.org.uk, a children’s charity that grants wishes for seriously ill children aged three to 18 across the UK.
At the Children’s Christmas Party, which took place at Drum in Wembley and was organised by a group of Rays of Sunshine volunteers, Fleur spent time meeting families, posing for festive themed photos, dancing along to music with the children and even went for a visit with the big man himself in Santa’s grotto! Amongst the children she met was 12-year-old Abigail, from Kent, who is currently living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, 15-year-old Renee, from Colchester, who is currently living with lung disease, and six-year-old Winnie, from Eccles, who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia when she was two years old.
As a supporter of Rays of Sunshine, Fleur has helped to create some incredible experiences for seriously ill children. Most recently, she took to The SSE Arena, Wembley stage to perform at The Rays of Sunshine Concert and also granted the wish of 12-year-old Libby, who is living with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, when she spent time with her backstage.

“I am super excited about being an ambassador for Rays of Sunshine. Over the past year I have had the pleasure of meeting a host of inspirational children, so when they asked me to become an ambassador it was an honour I didn’t hesitate to accept. Going along to the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Christmas Party was a great way to celebrate – I had loads of fun meeting all of the children and it certainly got me in the festive mood!”

Over 5,500 individual wishes have been granted since the charity was set up in 2003. Wishes can be as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a princess or a fireman for the day, go to Disney World in Florida, visit Santa in Lapland, own an iPad, meet a favourite celebrity or a ‘real life’ mermaid, Rays of Sunshine works hard to make that wish come true.
