Herbert M. Shelton

Herbert Macgolfin Shelton, N.D., (October 6, 1895 – January 1, 1985)[1] was an American naturopath, alternative medicine advocate, author, pacifist, vegetarian, supporter of rawism and fasting. Shelton was nominated by the American Vegetarian Party to run as its candidate for President of the United States in 1956. He saw himself as the champion of original Natural hygiene ideas from the 1830s.

Caldwell Blakeman Esselstyn Jr., M.D., (born December 12, 1933)[1] is an American physician, author, and former Olympic rowing champion. He is the author of the 2007 book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease that argues for plant-based, whole foods, no-oil nutrition. The book influenced former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Esselstyn starred in the 2011 American documentary, Forks Over Knives.

Neal D. Barnard is an American physician, author, clinical researcher, and founding president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), an international network of physicians, scientists, and laypeople who promote preventive medicine, conduct clinical research, and promote higher standards in research. An advocate of low-fat vegan diets, he has also conducted research into alternatives to animal experimentation and has been active in the animal protection movement. As of 2012, he is an adjunct associate professor of medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, serves as president of The Cancer Project, and heads the Washington Center for Clinical Research, a PCRM subsidiary.[1]

Barnard is the author of more than 50 published research papers on nutrition and its impact on human health, and several books, including The 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart (2011), Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes (2007), and Breaking the Food Seduction (2003).

T. Colin Campbell

T. Colin Campbell is an American biochemist who specializes in the effects of nutrition on long-term health. He is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University, the author of over 300 research papers, and the co-author of The China Study (2004), one of America's best-selling books about nutrition.[1] He also starred in the 2011 American documentary, Forks Over Knives.

Campbell was one of the lead scientists in the 1980s of the China-Oxford–Cornell study on diet and disease, set up in 1983 by Cornell University, the University of Oxford, and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine to explore the relationship between nutrition and cancer, heart and metabolic diseases. The study was described by The New York Times as "the Grand Prix of epidemiology."[2]

Michael Greger, M.D., is an American physician, author, vegan and professional speaker. He is a graduate of the Cornell University School of Agriculture and the Tufts University School of Medicine. He became vegan in 1990.[1] He is currently the Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States. Gabriel Cousens

Gabriel Cousens (born Kenneth Gabriel Cousens, 1943) is an American physician M.D., homeopath, and spiritual writer who practices holistic medicine. Cousens advocates live foods therapy, a nutritional regimen which he says can cure diabetes,[1] depression[2][3] and other chronic degenerative diseases. He is the founder of the "Essene Order of Light", an offshoot of a New Age religion based upon modern interpretations of the Essenes, an ancient Jewish sect, teachings from the Jewish Kabbalah and the Torah, and Hindu beliefs. Essene Order of Light is taught by Cousens at "Tree of Life Foundation", an organization directed by Cousens and headquartered at its "Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center" in Patagonia, Arizona.[4][5] Cousens has written books and tours internationally promoting his ideas on food and his spiritual beliefs.[6]

Michael Klaper

Dr. Michael Klaper spent much of his childhood vacations on his uncle's dairy farm in Wisconsin.[1]

Dr. Klaper graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1972 and served his medical internship at Vancouver General Hospital with the University of British Columbia. He also studied obstetrics at the University of California in San Francisco.[2]

Career

After graduation, Klaper moved between a number of locations, practiced acute care medicine, and eventually became certified in urgent care medicine. Following a desire to lead a less violent life, Klaper became a vegan in the early 1980s.[3]

He served as director of a vegan health spa in Pompano Beach, Florida from the early 1990s, where he observed the healing powers of plant-based nutrition, and was featured on the PBS documentary Diet For A New America by John Robbins.[4] However financial realities required him to return to urgent care medicine, which led him to practice in Maui, Hawaii, between 1995 and 2006, and Whangarei, New Zealand, between 2006 and 2009.[5] In 2010, he returned to nutritional medicine and currently serves on the medical staff at the TrueNorth Health Center in Santa Rosa, California.[6]

His books include Vegan Nutrition: Pure and Simple and Pregnancy, Children, and the Vegan Diet.
