Oh, what a night!

On Monday May 2, all fashion eyes were on New York City for the 2016 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit Gala. The annual soiree is one of the most buzzed about events in the fashion world, and every year industry insiders and celebrities alike take to its red carpet to flaunt gorgeous, avant garde looks for the cameras. This year’s theme, Manus x Machina, gave attendees the opportunity to take a futuristic approach to fashion — which can mean a lot of different things based on how literally you interpret the “tech in fashion” theme.

Some celebs rocked the evening’s celebration, others, however, left us scratching our heads. Obviously a gala dedicated to high fashion will offer up some weird style choices, but these were so WTF worthy that we can’t imagine anyone applauding them. From indecent exposure to glittering disasters, these ladies certainly did not portray themselves as the belles of the ball.

Madonna

Hey, we get it. When so many people are pulling out all the stops on fashion’s biggest night, it takes a lot to command attention. This, however, is not a good way to go about it. Space Cowboy? More like Space Call girl.

But oh, wait! It gets weirder. Check out this ditty from the back…

Yep, that’s her butt. Madge! No!

Beyoncé

Beyoncé just dropped her critically acclaimed album “Lemonade,” which is all about female empowerment and protecting yourself. So it totally makes sense that she showed up to Met Gala in a full body condom.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Ahoy Matey! Look, it’s Carrie Bradshaw…dressed as an Upper East side pirate. We don’t get it. Wasn’t the theme about the future? Last we checked pantaloons were all the rage in the 1600s.

Taylor Swift

The cutouts! The ruffles! The snakeskin! The lace up boots! The dark, dark lip! Vamped up Swift looks like she’s on her way to a Gothic carnival in a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood. Yikes.

Lady Gaga

We firmly believe in the philosophy that “no pants are the best pants.” However, someone should have told Gaga that when it comes to a red carpet event, pants are generally required. Also, if this is supposed to be a tribute to Ziggy Stardust — too soon.

Julie Macklowe

Well, someone HAD to come dressed as C-3PO.

Solange Knowles

Ever the supportive sister, Solange literally came as Lemonade.

Rita Ora

Rita Ora showed up looking like the biggest, most expensive feather duster we’ve ever seen. We’re pretty sure she looked to “Beauty and the Beast’s” Babette for inspiration.
