In 2015, 151 million people went shopping over the Black Friday holiday weekend. The National Retail Federation estimates that each person spent nearly $300, bringing in retail totals upward of $45 billion.
While those numbers should be encouraging to retail stores, they can be daunting from a consumer perspective. No one wants to spend their day waiting in lines or fighting off aggressive crowds.

To help make your Black Friday more manageable, FindTheHome, a real estate intelligence site by Graphiq, found the best cities for shopping in each state. Using 2016 data from Dun & Bradstreet, the team found the two cities in each state with the most shopping malls and centers.
To determine whether an establishment is a shopping mall the data experts looked at its Standard Industrial Classification code, which identifies the primary line of business of the establishment. The ranking starts with the top two cities in Alabama and progresses alphabetically through all the other states, listing the top two cities in each. Ties are broken by the shopping mall density per capita.

As expected, the cities with the most shopping malls in many states are also the most populous. There are, however, some interesting exceptions. For instance, Richmond, Virginia, ranks as the second best city for shopping in that state, despite only being the fourth largest city. Additionally, in Louisiana, Baton Rouge beats out the more-populous New Orleans when it comes to shopping centers.
Note: Vermont only has one city with enough shopping malls to qualify.
