I had noticed that several of my photographer friends had posted photographs to FineArtAmerica.com for sale. I decided to give it a shot. I passed a milestone on Flickr, with over 23,000 images, so I figured someone might be interested in purchasing a copy. So, my some of my photos can be found for sale at this link.

The service allows you to upload up to 25 images with a free account, and you earn as much as you designate as a mark-up. I have selected some of my favorites, and will rotate in seasonal shots and others. Here’s a slideshow of the ones I have available…

Visitors can purchase prints, framed prints, acrylic prints, and metal prints. Prices depend on the size of the print purchased and the framing options, paper, etc. A small art print from my gallery starts at $22 and goes up. Just for kicks I did a couple of them with the most expensive options, and the prices can start to run close to $300 for a large print with all the bells and whistles. You can even order iPhone cases. I just ordered this one for my own iPhone 5:

As far as I can tell, there aren’t any catches. The biggest problem I see is supply and demand – there are LOTS of great photographers out there, and having someone stumble on my work is about as likely as me winning the lottery. I guess I could start hawking my photographs, but I never really intended to turn “pro.” I just do this as a hobby, and I don’t want to clutter up Facebook, this blog, and any other social media with constant begging to buy my stuff. Apart from a couple of permanent links in key places, this is the only announcement I intend to make.

The main reason I wanted to do this was to protect some of my favorite photos. I’m tired of people stealing stuff, so I thought if I offered some of it through a legitimate vendor, I at least might feel better (even though I know it doesn’t stop theft.) We’ll see what happens. It could be that the iPhone case I ordered is my only sale. I’m hoping I don’t become my own best customer.
