Parenting is so different in 2015. When my parents bought me or my siblings bikes all they cared about was it having two wheels. I wish I was joking. I don’t think they put as much thought as we do now on safety. Safety is a priority with Guardian Bikes. Brian Riley, the CEO of Guardian Bikes shared a story of an unfortunate accident involving his grandfather flipping over the front of his bike. That story inspired Brian to invent new braking technology called SureStop. SureStop brakes use a single hand lever that operates both the front and rear brake at the same time, making it impossible to flip over your bike due to a sudden stop. We got invited to a day at the park that included an exclusive sneak peek at Guardian Bikes.

The facts:

I’m big on local. I absolutely love that Guardian Bikes are designed in California. California love!

Safety is the priority but what does that mean?

High quality components: Shimano shifting, Kenda tires, double wall rims for durability

Lightweight: 10 pounds lighter (mostly made of aluminum) makes it easier to control + handle.

Easy ride geometry: wheel base is extended and bottom bracket is lowered for an overall lower center of gravity, making the bike harder to tip over and easier to ride

SureStop brakes: no front wheel lockup, easier for children to control – only one lever controls both brakes

It was a fun day out and I forgot how fun riding a bike is. I have so many good memories of chasing my cousins down the street and feeling the wind on my face. I want that for my sons and can’t wait till Chris teaches Duke how to ride a bike. He had one a few years ago but it was cheap and I’m almost ashamed to admit we didn’t spend enough time teaching him. We are making outdoor fun a priority again! I’m happy my boy got some ride time at the Guardian Bikes preview and decided to add a bike to his Christmas wish list. What’s on your child’s wish list?
