(6:30) Skype Q & A with director after the film!

Over 25 years, cinematographer Kirsten Johnson has filmed lives all over the globe, from the daily routine of a Nigerian midwife to the training rituals of a Brooklyn boxer. Along the way, she's collaborated with major directors such as Laura Poitras (Citizenfour) and Michael Moore (Farenheit 9/11). In Cameraperson, she sifts through all the footage and creates a stunning memoir that explores the complicated ethics of documentary.

"Johnson's extraordinary and poetic film accomplishes for documentary cinematography what Christian Frei's War Photographer (2001) did for photojournalism, illuminating the complex ethical, philosophical, and political stakes behind a craft that remains mostly concealed from the lay consumer of images." (Lauren Du Graf, Los Angeles Review of Books)
