At least three people are dead and over half a dozen are wounded after a shooting inside a Louisiana movie theater last night.  The gunman opened fire in Lafayette and then shot and killed himself. Authorities say the shooter was a white man in his 50s who acted alone.

A firey crash involving 2 semis and 10 vehicles has I-65 shut down (both directions) just north of Indianapolis…reports say 5 people are confirmed dead.

Confederate battle flags will no longer be sold in gift shops operated by the Kentucky Department of Parks.  The announcement was made yesterday; Under the new policy, merchandise such as hats and t-shirts depicting the flag will also be removed.  However, educational materials featuring the flag will still be for sale.

A federal judge made a ground-breaking ruling in the state.  A judge sentenced Terry Smith, of Clay County, to life in prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs that caused the death of another person.  This case marked the first time in Kentucky that a life sentence was imposed in an overdose death.

The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Dept confirmed the body of 18 yr old David Dearmond was found in Graham near the high wall lake yesterday afternoon.

An autopsy is scheduled in a couple of days; the area where Dearmond was swimming was off limits, and the friends with him could be cited during the investigation.

A teenager died in a crash in central Kentucky.  State police say the accident happened on KY 84 in Marion County yesterday; 19-year-old Jessica Kickasola, dropped off the roadway and went into a creek and an embankment.  She was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local law enforcement agencies in Barren County come together today to collect back-to-school supplies for area students in the annual Cram the Cruiser campaign.  10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Glasgow Police & Barren County Sheriff’s Dept will be stationed at stores across for people to drop off donated school supplies.  Look for the cruisers at Wal-Mart, Kmart and Dollar General.

Traffic:  The Tennessee Department of Transportation says Interstate 40 will be closed in both directions in part of downtown Nashville beginning tonight. The closure will affect I-40 between the I-40/I-65 split northwest of downtown to the I-40/I-65 split on the south side. The closure is for bridge replacement work. It is scheduled to end at 6 a.m. on Monday.

Sports:  An effort by the union to settle Tom Brady’s “Deflategate” case is apparently falling on deaf ears with the NFL.  A settlement offer from the Players Association last week that would result in a large fine, but no suspension has been met with silence.

—Lansing starter Chase Mallard enjoyed a career-high 7.0 shutout innings, as the Lugnuts finished the three-game sweep of Bowling Green in a 5-0 whitewash last night.  The homestand for the Hot Rods starts tonight at 7:05 p.m. with Harry Potter Night at Bowling Green Ballpark!

—Bowling Green is host for the ASA Girls’ 14U Fast Pitch Softball Northern National Championship this week-end.  50 teams are playing in the tournament from all over the US and we have two teams representing the area in this field of 50, the Southern Kentucky Knockouts and the Bowling Green Blitz.

—WWE is cutting ties to Hulk Hogan.  Reports late last night said the wrestling company told staff who run the WWE website to remove all references to Hogan.  There are rumors online that the move could have something to do with a video of Hogan going on a racial tirade, but there’s no confirmation that such a video exists.

—The University of Kentucky is taking legal action to make sure rapper Drake doesn’t meet with any of their recruits.  The university sent Drake a cease-and-desist letter after Drake had contact with potential student athletes during an appearance at the school’s Big Blue Madness event last year.  The meetings could be a violation of NCAA rules.
