The 17th edition of the International Pop Overthrow took off last Friday in Los Angeles and it continues through this coming Sunday. Set at various locations throughout the city, at least five bands perform at each site, mostly coming from the Southern California landscape, and covering many genres from indie to punk to garage, etc. "The purpose of International Pop Overthrow is two-fold: one aim is to give every worthy band who’d like to play their music in a festival atmosphere the chance to do so, and the other is to bring pop music the attention it so richly deserves" is the stated goal, and the fact it is so heavily populated with unknown and brand new bands is a testament to their commitment. Venues involved include Skinny's Lounge in North Hollywood, West L.A.'s Fais Do Do and El Cid in Silver Lake.

In other shows around town this week, catch The Sixth Son on Thursday in Hollywood at  Boardner's with a band from Iceland called Árstíðir, Haunted Summer will also be in Hollywood at Harvard & Stone that same night, Geronimo Getty are beginning a Saturday night residency at The Escondite (Hideout), and there a Launch Party for an app about which  co-founder Josiah Mazzaschi says "I always wished there was an app that could help me create band flyers for upcoming shows" and...presto: Bandflyr was born. Come celebrate on Sunday night with Modern Time Machines, Livingmore and Light FM at El Cid.
