new one on 60m. K3LP, one of the leaders, has put 60m new ones on

going to South Sandwich Island on January 17th, and South Georgia

of these crew members were on the Navassa team.

* T42US CUBA - Just a reminder that this new country on 60m will be

on the air October 21st, 22nd and 23rd until 23:59Z. Then they will

be back on October 26th and 27th (closing down late afternoon on the

KH5, PALMYRA (Press Release #4 - Dated October 7th). [edited] Callsign

for Palmyra 2016 announced! -- After many months of planning, securing

permits and negotiating contracts with U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the

Nature Conservancy, we are quickly approaching the much anticipated DX-

pedition to Palmyra, KH5-P. The Team is excited to be able to activate

this much needed entity. Palmyra ranks in the top ten of the Most Wanted

List and #2 in Europe! Palmyra 2016 call is K5P!

Co-leaders Craig/K9CT and Lou/N2TU, have formed a very experienced,

highly qualified Team of 12 operators and plan to operate five stations

over a 14 day period, January 11th through January 26th, 2016. Palmyra

(KH5) ranks #9 on the Most Wanted List and #2 in Europe.

As with other DXpeditions of this magnitude, this is an expensive ad-

venture. Location, transportation, island costs, and other logistics make

Palmyra a costly operation.

Critical to major DXpeditions are the immediate, up-front commitment

costs. Before the DXpedition begins, all equipment must be secured, pre-

tested, and shipped to Hawaii where it will then be organized for forwarding

to Palmyra.

The DX community has been very supportive of this much needed DXCC

operation however, we are requesting additional financial support. We

have a large payment due on November 1, and are short of our commitments.

No matter how large or small the donation, every bit helps. Please do not

wait until the operation is completed; most of the expenses are up-front

and your support is urgently required now. Future permission to operate

on Palmyra Atoll may not happen for many years as access is severely

restricted.

Please visit our Palmyra2016 website to make your donation at:
http://palmyra2016.org/pages/sponsors.html

REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <http://www.bandconditions.com>:

The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365 actual

(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB for

Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of

benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for Nets

and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software pre-

dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a

new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric Interferometry"

which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by NASA.

PY0F, FERNANDO DE NORONHA (Update). Operators Ron/AA4NC, Will/AA4VK, and

Murray/WA4DAN will be active as PY0F/homecall from Fernando de Noronha

(SA-003) between October 18-28th, including operating in the CQWW DX SSB

and KPA500 amp. AA4NC will be the operator for the CQWW DX SSB Contest

(October 24-25th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry signing PY0F/AA4NC. QSL

via AA4VK or <www.qslnow.com>. A multi-card color QSL with island scenes

similar to the QSLs for their recent CY0 operations is planned. WA4DAN

will handle "Direct" QSLs. AA4VK will handle requests via the OQRS service,

at <QSLNow.com>, developed by Randy, N0TG. Until a dedicated PY0F website

is created, updates will be posted at <http://www.AA4VK.com> and at the

various DX bulletins.

RSGB NEWS (The future of the Radio Society of Great Britain’s IOTA

Program). Press release dated October 10th [edited]: Islands on the Air

(IOTA) celebrated its 50th anniversary as a premier DX program in July

2014. The last fifty years have seen the program grow to 2,500 active

island chasers and approximately 15,000 more casual participants. It is

perhaps second in scale and scope to the DXCC award; indeed, many would

argue it is even more challenging than that program.

Last year the Society’s Board identified a number of challenges that

the program faced, not least of which was the need to provide an IT system

that would allow online island credit submission akin to Logbook of the

World (LoTW). Since that time, a small group of IOTA enthusiasts has been

working with the Society to ensure that the IOTA program continues to grow

and play the prominent role that it has done in Amateur Radio DXing and

contest activity for the last fifty years.

That work has now come to fruition and we are pleased to announce that

a new organization will be formed, to be called the IOTA Foundation. It

will be run by IOTA enthusiasts and will manage the IOTA program in part-

nership with the Society. One major task for the new organization will be

to develop a new online credit system that is due to be completed in 2017.

Roger Balister, G3KMA, Bob Barden, MD0CCE, Cezar Trifu, VE3LYC and

Johan Willemsen, PA3EXX, are the team who will implement the IT changes

and form the IOTA Foundation, with representation from radio amateurs at

home and abroad....... Heather Parsons, RSGB Communications Manager
