CQ DX RAGCHEW

http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...cq_dx_ragchew/

Ive been licensed for a year now and enjoy cw. Contests have allowed me to

add some nice dx stations to my log. But, is there ever an opportunity to

have a dx ragchew? Id love to have the kinds of exchanges Ive had with more

local stations (wx, rig, whats for breakfast etc.) with some dx stations.

I considered sending cq dx ragchew to see what happens. submitted by

Im currently studying for my Technician license. In the meantime I have a

How many folks in this subreddit are in North America and listen to HF on a

software defined radio? Would you be interested in participating in an

experiment to locate some of the morons on HF?

Posted: 16 Jan 2015 04:02 AM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio..._are_in_north/

I was listening to 80m last night for the first time in a couple of years,

and it was interesting to say the least. It reminded me of the time, about

two years ago as well, in which I flipped on CB radio for the first time in

closer to twenty years. Juvenile levels of profanity, pre-recorded messages

being played over and over, people obsessing over max power and

broadcasting rather than communicating. All I needed was someone spitting

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaudio into their mic to complete the

experience.

Anyway, it occurred to me that if you could get say 5-10 (the more the

merrier) RF recordings of enough bandwidth to capture both offenders AND

some good tx with known locations (for in-band synchronization), you could

go all CSI and do some reasonable amount of triangulation...or at least

try. So im wondering if there are folks here in this subreddit that would

be willing to provide say 3-5 minutes of IQ sample data, preferrably at

least 192kHz wide centered on 3.8MHz, from say 11:00 to 11:05AM EST. I was

tinkering with some internet-based radios to do the same thing but dropped

samples mess it up pretty bad.

EDIT: oops! VERY IMPORTANT as im a huge fan of privacy and delete my reddit

accounts every couple of weeks to protect same. For this to actually work

for multilateration, ill need to know where your receiver is located to

within a few square miles, max. That information would not be intentionally

shared but im not going to sign any contracts, lol. I will provide

facilities to upload the data separate from any reddit accounts, however,

so theres no major risk of the information crossing over to your reddit

identity. Feel free to use throwaways to participate in this thread.

DStar DV HF Sked Request

Posted: 16 Jan 2015 10:17 AM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio..._sked_request/

Long time lurker, first time poster in r/amateurradio. Love this subreddit,

looking forward to contributing more.

Id like to play around with Icoms DV mode for HF, on either 20m, 15m, or

10m.

Im limited to 30w output on my IC-7100 as my LDG tuner limits key-down

equivalent transmissions to just 30w.

Anyone capable of HF DV and around during the day tomorrow (Saturday, 1/17)?

My QTH is NJ - USA, so east coast US - central US stations are probably

preferred considering my power limitations.

BF-F8+ Battery Pack Question

Posted: 16 Jan 2015 03:13 PM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...pack_question/

I bought one of those fancy AA adapters for my BF, seems to work great

until I try and key up. It just gives me a little beep. Battery level

indicator says its full (although I am not sure how accurate that is with

this battery pack). I did a full reset to be sure, and nothing.

Any ideas before I ditch this thing? submitted by maxcaven

Renting tower space for repeater

Repeater trustees, What do you pay for tower rental space? What is a fair

price for mounting an antenna and a repeater at the base? I know your

experiences probably vary widely. Does it depend on height, location, site

owner? submitted by k6lcm

FM broadcast tower in our backyard... Will it interfere on HF?

Posted: 15 Jan 2015 08:53 PM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...kyard_will_it/

Hello everyone, I am going to go for my license soon, and hopefully get at

least a general class. I would love to experience this hobby but have a

potential problem. On our land, there is a 300 foot FM radio tower

operating on 104 MHZ at 100KW. We get the occasional quirks with having it

up, like hearing music through a guitar amp, and I faintly heard some while

scanning on a baofeng radio at about 140 MHZ. Is this going to be a problem

if I put up a HF dipole? If so, is there anything I could do to remedy the

potential problems? Thanks for any help. submitted by Divinecobra

to get it into frequency county mode for the 2m and 440 bands? I cant seem

IC-7100 and Ham Radio Deluxe Help

Posted: 15 Jan 2015 11:16 PM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...o_deluxe_help/

So Im hoping to get my general ticket come this Saturday and want to be

able to do some playing with my radio when Im at work. Currently I have

skype installed on both machines and Im able to pass the audio to my laptop

and remotely control the PC as far as settings/frequencies.

However this is the part where Im running into issues. For some reason Im

unable to TX from my laptop (machine not physically connected to the

transceiver) when I push the TX button. When Im at my desktop (machine

hooked physically to the transceiver via the USB cable) I can hit TX and it

transmits just fine.

Does anyone have any good resources on setting this up?? Ive read the

manual many times and I seem to be doing everything right, but still cant

transmit.

Transceiver: ICOM IC-7100 Interface: USB cable, directly connected to the

transceiver Currently testing on internal network so ports and such should

not be of issue.

Thanks for any help, super frustrating not being able to figure this

out.... submitted by kabish

RFI from Craftsman Lithium Ion battery charger

Posted: 15 Jan 2015 05:05 PM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...ttery_charger/

Well I was trying to track down RFI that was quite noticeable during

operation on 10m from my mobile in my driveway..It was a pop then a slight

fuzz that repeated every 3-4 secs. After cutting the main power to my house

to confirm it was within my home, I cut each breaker one at a time..I then

found the offending breaker and then narrowed what device it was starting

with the garage door opener..needless to say it was the charger that

charges batteries for a Craftsman drill that I have..Just thought I would

share my findings..and also that it effects a lot of car battery chargers

as well according to this.

Edit: I also apologize if it is a redundant subject. Edit (2): Craftsman

Dangit! Bought an antenna mount with PL-259 connector, getting a radio with

SO-239 connector. Help!

Posted: 15 Jan 2015 05:37 PM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...nt_with_pl259/

I bought this Browning BR316 mount a few weeks ago to go with an antenna I

got. It comes with a PL-259 connector, which I assumed was the standard in

the industry.

Well, Im looking at getting the Yaesu 7900R for my truck, which has the

SO-239 female connector. I cant find any adapters online. Am I not looking

hard enough? AM I not using the right terminology? Do I have to buy a new

mount? And are there NMO magmounts with SO-239 connectors?

EDIT -

Yes, they are the same. Yes, Im a fool. I had it in my head that TV coax

was PL-259 and that the SO-239 "connector type" was the larger one. Im

relieved and embarrassed all at once.

I will retain the above ignorance for posterity, or until I redwipe the

account. submitted by moreworkouts
