1. Debby says . . .

Some of you may have heard my wee diatribe on the Official Broadcast

weekend. For those who didn’t here is a précis of what I said….I believe it

is important and needs to be repeated.

We are now only 4 weeks away from the annual conference, the ultimate

opportunity to recognise fellow amateurs for their work and commitment in a

branch throughout 2013, and yet we have no nomination for amateur of the

year, nor young amateur of the year and only one nominee for the ZL1HV Jumbo

Godfrey award.

Come on branches, are you seriously telling me there has been no-one that

you wish to acknowledge as going above and beyond, in your branch? What a

sad state of affairs, many secretaries were quick to inform me of what I

inadvertently omitted from your recent branch circulars posted out.

Therefore I am sure you can think of someone who deserves to be recognised.

Speaking of the branch circular, if a member advised me of a change of

address, specifically if moving out of your usual branch area, you also need

to advise me what branch you now wish to belong to. Again I have heard from

secretaries that members have moved on, or should be included in the

statistics that were advised. There are two reasons they may no longer be on

your list. One, they have moved, the other that they are no longer

financial.

If the latter, branches need to consider the opportunity to reintroduce them

back to the Association, whereby the branch can retain $50 of the $99

membership fee when they forward the membership application form of a

relaxed or new member. By relaxed, the person must not have been a member of

the Association for a period of three years or more.

Should the branch not want to keep the $50, then by all means forward the

application with a cheque for the balance to me, i.e. $49.00, this is an

opportunity that I am sure will attract those who for one reason or another

have not renewed their membership for a number of years.

I apologise for being so forthright this month and sounding like I am always

asking for money, which I have been accused of doing, however the voice is

more often heard in numbers rather than in shouting. More members equals

more opportunity to be heard and of course lower subscription rates.

Amateur Radio Promotional Power Point Display

Stuart Watchman ZL2TW with the assistance of Council has put together an

excellent power point display to be used by individuals, branches and

perhaps even at field days and junk sales to promote amateur radio. This is

a snapshot of what Amateur radio is and how easy it is to become an amateur

radio operator.

I have two formats available electronically for any branch or member who may

wish to use them. One is a reduced text version, the other full text. Please

contact myself in the first instance if you would like to receive an

electronic copy.

7. National Panasonic RF8000 communications receiver. Dear Amateur

Radio Operator, My name is Oleg Vladimirovich, I am 65 years old and during

all my life I am collecting old radios and receivers. I have many different

radios in my collection, but up to now I was not able to acquire the

National Panasonic RF8000 communications receiver. I would be very happy to

buy it but it is almost impossible to find it in Russia. Therefore I decided

to appeal to you in a hope that may be it is possible to buy such a receiver

in your great country. I hope to hear from you soon. Oleg

Vladimirovich,Russia. >

8. Technology Convention

The Technology Convention is currently held every two years over Easter.

At the 2013 Convention held in Auckland there were no offers made to host

the 2015 Convention. The NZART Conference over the Queen’s Birthday weekend

2014 will be attended by representatives of most branches. This is an

invitation to discuss hosting a Technology Convention and bringing feedback

to the Conference. Information about how previous Conventions were held can

be obtained from the Auckland VHF Group.
