JA, Japan:
8N1AB operates in the context of the fund drive Ayumi-no-Hako (for
the benefit of handicapped children and the elderly) until January
31 2014.
Project ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station)
offers pupils the possibility of a radio contact with astronauts
aboard the ISS with the help of volunteer radio amateurs. The
Karahashi Elementary School will give it a try on the 12th of
December using 8N3LR.
Two days later, on the 14th, 8N1ISS, as part of the Tochigi Science
Lion Project, will be another station attempting to contact the
ISS.
JD1, Minami Torishima:
If you have missed Take's activations of Marcus Island (OC-073, JCG
10007) as JG8NQJ/JD1 so far, look out for him again in
mid-December. He has a work assignment with the island's weather
station and will be on the air during his spare time. QRV mainly on

A storm recently brought down the impressive 160m & 80m antennas at
Radio Arcala (OH8X) from atop a 100m tall tower. Luckily no one was
injured and all other towers survived as well.
PJ2, Curacao:
Mark, N5OT, Dave, W6DR, Yin, N9YS, Mike, NT6X, and Geoff, W0CG
(PJ2DX), are going to activate Curacao (SA-099, WLOTA 0942) from
the 11th on as PJ2/homecalls, and during the ARRL 10m Contest as

Anders, SM4KYN, is going to spend the time from December 15 until
January 15 2014 on the island and work as PJ2/SM4KYN on all bands

SP, Poland:
Slawek, SQ1KSM, and Weronika, SQ1KSL, will join a special winter
activity as HF1ZIMA and SN1ZIMA from the 12th to the 22nd. Other

SN3ZIMA and SN5ZIMA. There is an award available based on contacts
with these stations.

African Tour:
Mathias, DJ2HD, and Ulmar, DK1CE, will go for a mobile dxpedition
through several countries in Southern Africa between December 14
and January 18 next year (including the DARC 10m Contest - Janaury
14). They will be QRV as V5/DJ2HD and V5/DK1CE in CW, SSB, and
RTTY; between December 22 and 24 as 7P8DJ and 7P8CE. They also plan
to visit South Africa as and operate as ZS/homecalls and hope to

Carlos Eduardo Levy, XE1YK, passed away aged 62. Carlos was a
former president of Mexico's national club FMRE from 2004 to 2008
and also a team member of two DXpeditions to Revilla Gigedo in 1973
and 2007.
Also among recently deceased radio amateurs are William H. Harper
(K9IW), Kevin M. Bunin (K4PG/C6APG), Carlo Orfella (IK1QQQ), and
Alberto Urano Silva (LU1DZ), initiator and founding member of the
Grupo Argentino de CW.
Our thoughts are with their families and friends. We are sorry for
their loss.
