Pasquale Rotella walks it like he talks it.
The CEO of Insomniac Events and driving force behind the Electric Daisy Carnival phenomenon, Rotella’s obvious passion for EDM and culture is the engine behind his company’s current dominance on the American dance music festival circuit.
Under the Insomniac tagline, “Wide Awake Since 1993,” Rotella’s hard-earned experience at the helm of producing events has not dimmed his enthusiasm for the scene in the least. His zeal was most recently on display in a heartfelt open letter he wrote to EDC fans eager to learn who’ll be playing this year’s flagship event in Las Vegas, set for the weekend of June 20-22.
“I am always listening to the fans,” Rotella explained during a recent interview with Radio.com when asked about the motivation behind the open letter. “I’m always interacting with the fans. I used to do it as a street promoter. I used to stand outside of events for 10 hours and talk to people about the show I had coming up, answer their questions about things they were curious about. My company’s gotten bigger, and I’ve gotten more busy, I haven’t been able to be out there as much to interact with people. But the internet still allows that to be possible. I feel like I have a connection with the fans. I want to hear what they have to say… I want people to have as good an experience as I had when introduced to all this.”

With this year’s EDC NY already in the books as a resounding success and the long sold-out Vegas event looming next month, Rotella’s is expanding his brand’s reach with the release of Under the Electric Sky, a surprisingly emotional documentary that captures the experiences of various attendees at EDC Las Vegas 2013.
“I successfully held in tears a couple of times, and a couple of times not,” he admitted about seeing the film for the first time. “I’m proud of the movie. It’s hard to capture what’s going on at the shows. So many people want to document it like a concert, and it’s really so much more than that. It means so much to people. To follow the fans, I refer to them as the headliners, I felt like it was the closest thing to capturing the spirit of the shows.”
