Retired General Michael Flynn has resigned as President Trump’s national security adviser.

Flynn’s resignation comes after he misled Vice President Pence and other administration officials about a conversation he had with a Russian ambassador before President Trump took office, and whether he discussed sanctions with the ambassador.
In his resignation letter, Flynn said he “inadvertently” briefed top officials with incomplete information about the conversation. He also said he sincerely apologized to the President and Vice President, and they have accepted his apology.
Lt. General Joseph Kellogg, Jr. has stepped in as acting national security adviser.
