Anticipation growing for “Racing’s Biggest Party” October in Syracuse
NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week XLII returns to New York State Fairgrounds Oct. 9-13
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – July 31, 2013 -With “Racing’s Biggest Party” set to get underway in just a little over two months, tickets for the 42nd Annual NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week are selling fast. Reserved camping at the New York State Fairgrounds for the biggest week in DIRTcar Racing, which runs from Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Sunday, Oct. 13, so fans are acting fast to claim the best spots by visiting www.dirtcar.com/tickets.
With more than a 40-year history, NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week received the National Speedway Directory Award for Outstanding Annual Short Track Event in 2011 , and continues have more energy year after year. Last year’s 41st incarnation of one of the Northeast’s biggest motorsports events brought racing greats Brett Hearn, Tim McCreadie, Pete Stefanski and Rocky Warner to Victory Lane at the New York State Fairgrounds’ fabled “Moody Mile.”
The “Moody Mile” puts man and machine to the limit. It’s where Buzzie Reutimann claimed the first two Syracuse titles in the early ’70s, where Gary Balough and the Batmobile sparked debate and domination, where Kenny Brightbill took advantage of a late-race mistake by two-time winner Jimmy Horton in 1988, where Alan Johnson won from last starting position after a late race crash involving the top-two in 1989, it’s where Kenny Tremont ran out of gas twice on the final lap while leading, where Vic Coffey pulled off the biggest upset of them all in 2002, and where Billy Decker, Frank Cozze and Stewart Friesen have exceeded the limits of gas mileage on their quests to victory.
In its 42nd incarnation, NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week promises untold excitement as past champions and rookies alike wrangle for the spot atop the winner’s podium. Saturday’s DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Championship and the Salute the Troops 150 DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship, and Sunday’sDIRTcar Pro Stock Championship and Super DIRTcar Series VP Small Engine Fuels 200 put the best competitors from the DIRTcar traveling series on a unique mile-long track quite unlike anything else they see all year.
More than races, NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week is that one time a year when local racing enthusiasts from across the region – from Autodrome Granby near Montreal, Quebec, to Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N. Y. – converge in one location to watch their hometown heroes take on the best in the sport. NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week celebrates a great season among great friends, who team up after the races to throw parties as legendary as the action on the track often is. Because of the enthusiasm shown by the fan-organized Club Wago, Club Gypsum, Camp Drinkmore and the Voodoo Lounge, among others, NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week has come to be known as “Racing’s Biggest Party,” and there’s no doubt it will continue to live up to its name.
Also called simply “Syracuse” by traveling race fans from as far as Australia, NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week extends beyond the Syracuse city limits with satellite events in Weedsport and Elbridge. Weedsport Speedway hosts the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series and DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series Wednesday, Oct. 9. The following night, the World of Outlaws Late Models Series, joined by the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, takes on “The Fast Track” at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge. “The Greatest Show on Dirt,” the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series invade the Wheels Saturday, Oct. 13, joining the popular Big Block Modified “Win and You’re In” qualifier for Sunday’s VP Small Engine Fuels 200.
Advance sale tickets, including reserved seats, general admission, general and reserved camping, parking, and golf cart passes, are available for purchase by visiting www.SuperDIRTWeekonline.com or by calling the ticket hotline at (877) 395-8606 for events at the New York State Fairgrounds and Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.
