On Sunday, January 26, 2014, Wells Brothers Italian Restaurant hosted a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser benefiting the Racine County Sheriffs Office K9 Unit. The event ran for 5 hours and 515 spaghetti dinners were served. Silent auction items were generously bid on, bake sales items were nearly sold out, and 50/50 raffles and prizes were chosen from hundreds of tickets sold. In total, just over $12,000 was raised which will be allocated to training needs and maintenance of the deputies and canines in this unit. Sheriff Christopher Schmaling stated, “The outpouring of support by this community is extremely gratifying. The proceeds from this event will enhance the capabilities of our K9 unit and allow us to better serve our community.”

Owners of Wells Brothers, Bill Rivers and Paula Huck stated this was the largest turnout for a fundraiser they have hosted yet. K9 Deputies Drewitz and Ruffalo were present throughout this event with their respective K9′s, “Friday” and “Nitro”. All who attended were able to meet and pet the K9′s and some even had their pictures taken with them. Overall, this event was a success with an opportunity to eat some of the best spaghetti in town! According to Owner Bill Rivers, over 100 pounds of meatballs and 150 pounds of spaghetti were sold out approximately 10 minutes before the event concluded.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to support this event; whether it was a donation you made, a dinner you ate, a pie you purchased, or an item you bid on. Without the communities support, none of this would have been possible. A special thank you goes out to Investigator Tracy Hintz who organized this event along with K9 Deputies Drewitz, Ruffalo, and Fisher who worked together to collect raffle prizes. This event would not have been such a success without all of your hard work.

To anyone who was unable to join us, we plan to make this an annual event so maybe we will see you next year. Thanks again!
