jon-snow:

okay. guys. we need to have a chat.

so fast and furious 7 comes out APRIL 3RD. at least, in the us. i assume it’s around that time for everyone else, as well.

i know a lot of my followers are white and also teenage girls and therefore maybe haven’t ever been encouraged to watch the fast and furious franchise. which is a travesty, because the fast and furious franchise is great.

why is the fast and furious franchise great? WELL.

DIVERSITY: one of the only major blockbuster franchises that puts an emphasis on diversity and accurately reflects the audience that is going to see it. (only 29% of the audience for furious 6 was white, making ticket sales of poc double white movie goers).

vin diesel is pan-ethnic (never met his biological father and doesn’t know exactly what his heritage is). michelle rodriguez is latina. sung kang is korean-american. the rock is samoan. tyrese gibson and ludacris are both african-american. I COULD GO ON.

these movies’ biggest emphasis is on family, and specifically FOUND FAMILY. and the cast and the crew, as well as the characters on screen, are all some of the closest people working together, since some of them having been working together for more than a decade (1st movie came out in 2001)

seriously. they all love each other. when paul walker died, vin diesel kept breaking down in tears on set for months. michelle rodriguez went off the rails. THEY ARE A FAMILY.

remains one of the top universal properties, and one of the most profitable. these movies make so much money. they are a cultural institution. upper- and middle-class white people are incredibly dismissive of them, much to their detriment.

seriously, dad, just watch the goddamn movies. come on.

while these movies are making billions of dollars worldwide, they’re also weirdly subversive and critical of the american justice system, racial inequality, and an economic system that sticks huge swaths of the american population into poverty and then funnels them into the prison system

it also has some of the best girl-on-girl action fight scenes of all cinematic history

i cannot stress this enough. the fight scene between michelle rodriguez and gina carano in furious 6 is brutal and amazing

WHILE WE’RE ON THE SUBJECT, LET’S TALK ABOUT THE WOMEN OF THE FAST AND FURIOUS FRANCHISE, OF WHICH THERE ARE SEVERAL IN EVERY MOVIE

also, not just Strong Women™. being a mother or not being a mother or stealing cars or beating the shit out of people are all valid choices for women in the fast and furious universe.

generally stays away from using sexual assault as a plot device!

also, these movies are just. really fucking enjoyable. have u ever wanted to see cars drive out of a plane? or a car vs. tank death match? then this is the franchise for you!

also, can i just repeat that THE ROCK is in this franchise!

"it’s super weird that you’re so passionate about this, zoe, but…keep doing your thing, i guess. there’s just so many movies though, i don’t have time for this.”

excellent implied question, dad!

you don’t have to watch all 6 movies in the next week, though you certainly can if you want to

the movies are designed to be viewed with very little knowledge of the franchise, if you so choose

the first one i ever saw was fast and furious 6!

you may also skip 2 fast 2 furious. i give you permission. it’s okay. it takes place in miami.

a good jumping off place if you’re feeling kind of overwhelmed by having to watch SIX MOVIES is the fast & furious

that is the fourth one. yes, i know. it’s very confusing. it’s a fine place to start, BUT you will get spoiled for things.

but, it’s also the fast and furious franchise. is a car crash really a spoiler.

“wait the fast and furious and the fast and the furious are two different movies?”

excellent question, twitter user kendra and also my dad, who was still being held hostage for this seemingly endless conversation by a cat sitting on his lap

yes they are!

the order of the fast and furious franchise is:

the fast and the furious (1), 2 fast 2 furious (2), fast and furious: tokyo drift (3), the fast & furious (4), fast five (5), fast & furious 6 (6), furious 7 (7)

the chronological order within the f&f universe is 1,2,4,5,6,3,7

“zoe, what’s your definitive ranking of the fast and furious movies?”

thank you, no one ever, for that question

my definitive ranking for the fast and furious franchise is as follows:

fast & furious 6

fast 5

the fast & furious

the fast and the furious

fast and furious: tokyo drift

2 fast 2 furious, which i wish i could delete from existence

some people argue that fast 5 is the best one, because it changed the formula of the franchise and was an excellent heist movie; however, i dock points for the absence of michelle rodriguez

and also FURIOUS 6 IS AMAZING

“okay, i’m sold. where can i watch these excellent films?”

there’s probably one on television right now. at this moment. there is generally always a fast and furious movie on television somewhere

idk use the goddamn internet. i believe in your ability to find movies online, jesus christ.

in conclusion, the opening credits of fast & furious 6 recap the first 5 movies so if you’re still not sure, watch that below. but there are spoilers in it, so BE AWARE.

in conclusion part two, vin diesel named his daughter after the late paul walker and if that doesn’t make you cry and also want to watch these men BE A FOUND FAMILY ON THE BIG SCREEN are you even a real person, jesus christ.
