The lower reward tiers on our Kickstarter page are pretty simple: $10 for an ebook, $20 for a paperback plus ebook, $25 for all three ebooks, and so on. (The $25 tier is a pretty awesome deal, which is why over 270 people have chosen it so far.)
But when we were researching our crowdfunding plans, everything recommended including higher tiers as well — and they were right! One person has already pledged $1000 for our top-tier “Mystery Box” reward, and half of our limited $500 rewards are gone!
However, I thought it would still be good to give you guys some more info on what you’re paying for if you do pledge at a higher level. All of these rewards already include the basics: all three print books and ebooks, plus exclusive backer updates throughout the publishing process, and personalised postcard updates from the authors.
Kady Morrison/gyzym's WIP file: $250
Along with all the other rewards, you get an exclusive, annotated file containing all of Kady/gyzym’s current WIPs..This is WELL over 100,000 words of fiction, including one 70k story, and sequels to stories you may already recognise. Basically, this is A LOT of writing, plus personal annotations and messages from the author. For more details, you can contact us or the author!
Signed and personalized cover art prints: $250
Our cover artists are hydrae, quaedam, and longerrpigs. At this level, you will receive high-quality prints of each individual cover art illustration (along with all the other rewards). You can see more samples of our artists’ work on our website, alongside excerpts from each book.
Nat’s ridiculous life doc: $250
Nat (febricant) has led a pretty bizarre life. Also, if you follow her on Tumblr, you’ll know that she’s a totally hilarious and weird and cool person. This reward level gives you a kind of memoir-doc of Weird Shit That’s Happened To Nat, including photos from her travels across the world. How did she end up almost riding a horse off a cliff in Africa? You won’t find out unless you hit up this reward level.
Combination reward: Alllll of the things: $500
This includes Nat’s travel doc, Kady’s WIP file, and some awesome photo prints from Erin (eleveninches), which are also included in the $110 reward level. Plus everything else from the lower tiers.
Extra writing mailed personally to you: $500
All three authors have offered to write up to 10,000 words for each person who pledges at this level. This is a limited reward, and all four of Kady’s offers have already been snapped up! However, you can still pledge for writing requests from Erin and Nat. (You can negotiate privately with the author re: what they should write for you.) Get them while they’re still available!
MYSTERY BOX: $1000
We’re stupidly excited about this one. At this level you get, well, everything: Kady’s WIP file, Erin’s photos, Nat’s travel doc, all three cover art prints, postcards, updates, and books/ebooks. PLUS a Mystery Box, which will contain a unique gift from every individual person at Big Bang Press. One person has requestsed this so far, and we’re already dreaming up cool ideas for what to include. Alex (our Press Coordinator) was pondering including the dress she wore when she won her Emmy award, and Gavia (uh, me, the Managing Editor) was advised to include some taxidermy. (N.B. There will not actually be any dead animals in the real Mystery Boxes, don’t worry. We have to mail them all over the world. BUT THOSE BOXES WILL BE VERY VERY COOL, WHATEVER THEY END UP CONTAINING.)
Why we included expensive reward tiers like this.
One of Kickstarter’s most successful campaigns was by a singer who included a “house party” reward for $10,000. Basically, groups of fans would privately organise to pool their funds for the singer to perform at a party in their own home.
Now, we’re not doing anything exactly like that because we’re all writers and internet dweebs, and therefore cannot really live up to the excitement level of a rock star house party. Plus, $10,000 is a lot of money. However, it’s still entirely possible for backers to make some kind of private arrangement with friends so they can afford one of the more expensive reward levels, much like how people clubbed together for those $10k house parties. We’ve also heard from people requesting higher reward levels as Christmas or birthday gifts for friends or family, which is pretty cool!

In the event that we reach our goal early, we have some really cool stretch goals in mind. But before that, we’re going to add a BRAND NEW REWARD LEVEL in the next couple of days! It’s an upgrade for everything above and including the two most popular reward tiers: $25 and $50, which have almost 400 backers between them. But we’ll tell you more once we’re closer to reaching $30,000! We’re at $28k just now, so you can always help out by reblogging our intro post, tweeting about the Kickstarter, or linking your friends to the book excerpts on our website. :)
I wish I could textually render how many conversations we had where we were like I HOPE SOMEONE BUYS THE MYSTERY BOX SO I CAN AGONIZE OVER WHAT TO PUT IN THE MYSTERY BOX!!! Because seriously, you guys, it was so many. Soooo many.
