Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.

Good morning! How are you doing today? Did you have a good weekend?  We spent Friday night near Sandusky, Ohio and then we moved to North East, Pennsylvania and now we are at a state park in eastern New York!  Both Friday and Saturday we stayed at local wineries as part of a program called Harvest Hosts. For just $35/year a Harvest Hosts membership allows us to stay at farms, wineries and other local businesses for free – and in exchange we support that business by buying their produce, wine, dining in their cafes (what we did today) or helping out around the business. It’s essentially boondocking on private property with the fantastic perk of buying/experiencing local food/drink.

Since we have two little ones, we don’t stay at wineries often – but it’s Labor Day and campsites are hard to find – so this works beautifully. The kiddos enjoyed the cafe at the Pennsylvania winery (gourmet grilled cheese and bottled root beer, yum!) and got to run around the field in the morning before the winery opened. Nestled next to a farm house and a pond – it was a wonderful spot.

Check out this pinkalicious sunset at the winery in Ohio on Friday night!?  Seriously, my friends – this country is full of beauty, for us it’s just been about slowing down enough to appreciate it.

Yesterday we got settled at our state park here in western New York and we spent the afternoon swimming in Lake Erie! What a gorgeous day it was with temps in the 90s and the water the perfect cool down.  I took most of the day off yesterday playing with the kids on the beach, teaching my son how to play H-O-R-S-E on the basketball court, and taking the kids to the playground. It was a good catch-up day and we all fell into bed feeling fulfilled and exhausted.

Yesterday I shared a post that got quite a bit of BUZZ –  How much is your monthly grocery budget? See what the USDA says it should be. We had a LOT of discussion on the Queen Bee Facebook page and lots of comments on the post. I want to start the discussion of how we see couponing and grocery savings in 2016. The old ways of couponing just aren’t working as well anymore. I hope to do a series of posts on how we can save on groceries 2016 style, so that by the time January rolls around we’ve already made changes to start the new year on the right track. You with me?
