Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.

Good morning! Today is one of those slow-motion-sorta-days. I woke up with a sore throat and I’m keeping my sweet boy home from school because he’s not feeling well either. I knew he was fighting something last night when he came home from school complaining his legs were tired (this coming from the kid who runs everywhere) and he grabbed his lovey Curious George and camped out on the couch. We have big plans this weekend – including a fall festival tomorrow night – so I’m hoping the restful day will be just what the doctor ordered. I suppose it’s that time of year – and I’m hoping everyone is healthy and well in your home!

Yesterday I hit up my local QFC (Kroger store) and didn’t use even one coupon. Crazy, right? Even my favorite cashier was shocked. But I really didn’t buy much packaged food – and nearly everything in my cart was a manager markdown.

Two 5-pound bags of red potatoes – $0.99 each (reg. $3.99)

Bananas – $0.49/lb (reg. $0.69)

Fancy tomatoes on the vine, clamshell – $1.99 (reg. $4.99)

Fresh salsa from the deli – $1.49 (reg. $4)

Baby bella portabella mushrooms – $2.19 (reg. $3.99)

Italian sausage – $2.99 (reg. $5.99)

Extra, extra lean ground turkey – $4.29 (reg. $6.99)

Marked down pork chops

I also found Kroger non-scented dryer sheets $1.49/box (reg. $4.99), method hand soap $1.49 and lots of frozen food markdowns.

Grapes – $1.68/lb, no markdown, just sale price?

I came home and used the marked down mushrooms and sausage to whip up some of this Slow Cooker Tortellini soup – but because I didn’t have all day, I made it on the stove top. I cooked the sausage (whole) and sliced mushrooms in a little chicken broth, until they were golden brown. Then I added the rest of the ingredients. I didn’t have tortellini and substituted frozen ravioli, then left out the cheese from the recipe and it was perfect.

Today I’m going to try a crockpot recipe today for Olive Garden’s Zuppa Toscana soup! I’m really excited to give it a try. Yesterday I shared this Slow Cooker Baked Potato Soup – it’s like having a bowl full of the creamy inside of a twice baked potato. It’s delicious, incredibly filling and very frugal to make.

*Last week to vote!* Queen Bee Coupons has been nominated for the Best of Western Washington awards – as best neighborhood blog. We are currently ranked #5 and I would love your vote if you think Queen Bee deserves the nomination. I appreciate the votes!

Last Friday I announced a new giveaway for a $300 Great Wolf Lodge gift card! It’s my way of saying THANK YOU for following my site, sharing the deal I post and for being part of this amazing community of frugal-minded super stars. Enter to win the $300 Great Wolf Lodge gift card HERE.

Amazon Deals

We post Amazon deals throughout the day, see the latest Amazon deals here. See all of Amazon’s Deals of the Days here.

Amazon Deal of the Day – Up to 50% Off Select Exercise Bands

The last few years we’ve shifted and started purchasing all our kid’s movies on Amazon as instant videos which means we can watch them from any computer or TV or tablet or phone in our house. As long as you have internet and are logged into your account – you have access to your movie. It can be streamed onto a SmartTV or thru something like a Roku. The other advantage is – NO scratched DVDs and they also include up to 4 download licenses – if you want to download the movie onto a device so you can view it without internet.

Anyway, Amazon has a RARE discount on Dreamworks HD instant videos – just $9.99. These usually run $19.99 and price drops are NOT common. They currently have 11 movies at this price or less – including Rise of the Guardians, MegaMind, The Croods, Kung Fu Panda, Monsters Vs. Aliens and more. See all qualifying movies here.

But if you prefer the actual DVDs, it looks like they’ve dropped the prices on a lot of the movies, as well:

Megamind (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) – $9.99
The Croods (Blu-ray / DVD + Digital Copy) – $9.99

GoGo SqueeZ Apple/Strawberry, Applesauce on the Go, 3.2 Ounce Pouches, 12 Count (Pack of 4) – As low as $19.20 with Subscribe and Save. This is 48 pouches so it comes out to $0.40 each – a super price. I want to say that Costco is $0.49/ea but I don’t see it in our Costco Price list (darn), so I can’t confirm.

The World of Eric Carle: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Teether Rattle by Kids Preferred – $4.79, BEST price, it’s an add-on item.

Skechers Women’s Mad Dash Boot – as low as $29.14 (reg. $69.99). Look at the other color swatches – because it’s hard to see on the black color photo, but they have little holes on the leg shaft as a design element. They are still cute – but you really can’t see it on the black picture – so I wanted to point it out so you know exactly what you’re getting.
(Thanks, Thrifty NW Mom!)

Kenneth Cole Kids Reaction Heart Treat 2 Boot to $29.51 in the The Dark Brown Matte color pictured above. PLUS save an extra 20% when you use code BOOTUP14 at checkout, making the final price as low as $23.61 (reg $44.95)!  There are LOTS of sizes range from 7 Toddler to 6 Big Kid at this price.  Great reviews. Prices vary with color and size.

Columbia Unisex-Baby Infant Snowtop II Bunting – as low as $22.15 (reg. $45), use code FALLFAVS at checkout to save an extra 20% off, as low as $17.72.

KEEN Maderas MJ Mary Jane (Toddler/Little Kid/Big Kid) – $16.26 (reg. $35). Select sizes.
