Good morning! Good morning friends! How are you today? How was your weekend? We had a busy weekend. Left Coeur d’Alene as soon as school was out Friday night and headed to Western Washington. We stayed with my in-laws and gratefully they watched the kids so we could attend the funeral of my friend’s son, lost in a tragic accident the previous weekend. It’s so hard to see a mother’s pain firsthand and it was a difficult day – but I’m glad we were there to honor his life (he was an amazing kid) and show Sia our love.
While in Seattle we made an epic trip to IKEA (there are no IKEA stores over here). I’ve been trying to furnish our home with secondhand items as much as possible – and for the most part have been successful. But because the kids have such small bedrooms, I really wanted a loft style bed – to maximize space and I just wasn’t finding anything used at the right price. So then I was going to build the beds this next week, using plans from Anna White (she’s amazing!) but after discovering we’d be in Seattle I opted for IKEA loft beds – cheaper than I could build, sturdy and easier to assemble. After driving home yesterday (about a 5.5 hour drive) we picked up Papa Murphy’s pizza (with coupons of course!) and put together some beds.
The kids are excited and I hope to spend some time this week organizing their rooms. Still on the hunt for secondhand dressers and maybe small desks for their rooms – I’ll sure I’ll find them soon and we aren’t in too big of a rush. We’ve been in the house about five weeks now and I’m so grateful for this space we call home. I hope to share more about it – once I feel more settled. . .
I’m planning out meals for the week and just pulled out a Zaycon roast and two frozen whole chickens (bought during the Fred Meyer sale a couple weeks ago). I pick up a box of Zaycon Chicken breasts tomorrow that should restock our freezer for awhile and I’m hoping to use the crockpot a lot this week so I can focus on other things besides cooking.
Oh and I forgot to tell you I had a successful trip to Value Village last week! I found a fun floral binder for work ($0.99), canning jars ($0.69), Trick or Treat wooden sign ($0.99), dress shoes I needed for the funeral ($2.99), a wooden pumpkin ($1.49), Pier 1 LED lighted Christmas globes – still in the box – for the kids (one for each, $1.99, I think the Christmas elf will bring them!). glass 2 cup measuring bowl ($1.99) and a NEW kid’s wooden art paper roll dispenser with cutter ($2.99). Thrift shops are a great place to get seasonal decorations and my kids are at a fun age to appreciate them. Have you had any secondhand luck lately? I’d love to hear!
