Rise and Shine is my way of sitting down and having a cup of coffee with you! We talk about the new deals of the day, highlights from yesterday, and anything else that might help us save time, money or energy. Published Monday through Friday – as I’m able.

Good morning! Well yesterday I didn’t get Rise and Shine posted and today. . .well it’s a bit behind. We were traveling back from Alaska yesterday – we went to visit my family for a couple weeks and there was a lot to wrap up yesterday. We got back around midnight yesterday, so everything is in slow motion this morning.

We had a great trip, we spent time at my parents cabin in the middle of nowhere – no plumbing or electricity – but glorious views and my moms best camp cooking. We drove to Homer, Alaska (a 14 hour drive from my parents house in Fairbanks!) and we went halibut fishing – my son caught a big ole halibut with the help of Grandpa.

We all rented a house near Homer, Alaska and filled it with my sister and her family, my parents, my grandma (who lives in Arizona) and my kiddos and husband. The fireweed was in FULL bloom and the memories were priceless.

The first night in the house we had FIVE moose in the pond outside the house. I don’t care how many moose I’ve seen in my lifetime (hundreds!) it’s always magical to watch them in nature. It was dark, so my photos were blurry – but it was amazing.

I grew up in Alaska so it’s always good to go home. If deals have seemed lighter than normal lately it’s because I was busy with family. Although I’m still posting deals when I can, Maygan, Stephanie, Anne and Kerri do an amazing job posting deals while I’m unplugged. It’s really good for me to recharge before September hits and we start seeing deals by the dozens everyday. As we get closer to September, you should expect Rise and Shine to be published earlier in the day and a bit more regularity when we post deals.

And on another note, my husband and I were supposed to leave for Hawaii tomorrow. We planned the trip nearly a year ago to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We’ve been saving and planning and anticipating. But we canceled our trip yesterday because of the hurricanes! Hoping the people of Hawaii stay safe and although we may have been able to safely land – there were too many variables to worry about. This morning there was an earthquake on the big island (how scary!). Alaska Airlines gave us a full refund for our tickets (I love that airline!!!) – but the condo we rented is being stubborn and they aren’t wanting to refund anything! I’m sure hoping they come around because we certainly aren’t canceling over a little rain storm.

Travel is my absolute favorite thing to do in the world and I’m grateful for the opportunities we had this summer. We try to squeeze it all in before my husband starts coaching football again and school starts back up.  If you live in the Northwest and are looking for a chance to get away – make sure and enter my giveaway for a weekend stay in Long Beach, Washington!
