Good morning! How are you today!?! I hope your day is off to a good start. Yesterday we got work and homeschool done in the morning and then we headed to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for the afternoon – what FUN we had. Imagine a huge, steep sand dune (mountain of sand) that you can climb and can see for miles around. That’s what it’s like – and that’s what we did! The kids LOVED it – the sand was so soft and yesterday was a cooler day – so it was so comfortable. We also visited a working Blacksmith shop, a Maritime Museum, an old Cannery, completed the Junior Ranger program, and the kids participated in part of a “Heroes of the Storm” re-enactment of a turn-of-the-century shipwreck rescue. Whew! It was a busy and fun day – and for the most part, it was “free” since we have a National Park pass.
And if you could use a National Park fix – TODAY is actually the 99th Anniversary of the National Park Service – so parks across the country are waiving their entrance fees! How cool is that? This trip around the country has really given me a better appreciation for the park services, park service employees, the (free) educational opportunities and the amazing places that are preserved for us to enjoy!
Even here at the state park that we’re staying at they have educational programs all day – my kids just went to one on fireflies earlier this week, learning all about them and actually making a glow-in-the-dark firefly as part of the program. Check out the state and national parks in your area!
Yesterday over on our travel blog, I shared a post about our trip to Wall Drug and the Sioux Falls Jellystone campground. We were in South Dakota at the end of July. . .I’m about a month behind in on the travel blog – hoping to get caught up soon.
