MACCLESFIELD Town’s reward for beating League One Walsall was a second round home tie against fellow League One side Oxford United.

A single goal from Macclesfield’s John McCombe proved vital in the first round and the Silkmen will be grateful to be back on home turf for the second round – with the hallowed third round just one more 90 minutes away.

Curzon Ashton have Adam Morgan to thank for them still being in the hat and if they can overcome the lowest ranked side left in the competition, Westfields, on Monday, they could throw up the potential to face local rivals Bury.

David Flitcroft’s struggling Bury side face a replay of their own after they blew a two-goal lead at Gigg Lane against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Bolton Wanderers squeezed past League Two Grimsby Town in the first round courtesy of a goal from Liam Trotter and they will be at home once again against high-flying League One rivals Sheffield United.

Wanderers sit second in the league, three points ahead of United who do have a game in hand on the North-West club; that really could be the heavyweight tie of the round.

Lincoln City knocked out Jim Harvey’s Altrincham side on Saturday with a 2-1 win and they could compile further misery on North-West opposition as they were drawn against Oldham Athletic.

Oldham comfortably put aside Doncaster Rovers on Saturday but will be wary of Danny Cowley’s Lincoln side, as they sit second in the Vanarama National League currently.

Carlisle United remain the only unbeaten team in the English Football League so far this season and were the team many wanted to avoid in this draw.

But they were the penultimate draw, leaving Maidstone United or Rochdale with the tricky task of ending that unbeaten run.
