Premier League champions Leicester City and Championshipoutfit Aston Villa are the latest clubs to be dragged into the child abuse scandal that has marred the game over the past few weeks.

Both clubs are set to be probed by the FA over one of their former youth coaches, Ted Langford –he was jailed in 2007for sex offences against four young players between the 1970s and 80s.

It is another bleak development in the ongoing scandal, which also saw former Celtic kit man Jim McCaffertyface court on Thursday, following his arrest. He stands accused of molesting young players between the 80s and 90s.

McCafferty, who currently resides in Belfast, used to work as a kit man for Celtic as well as Hibernian and Falkirk. He also worked as a youth coach for West Lothian.

Deirdre Bones, Detective Superintendent from the police service of Northern Ireland, said: “A 71-year-old male has been arrested by detectives after presenting himself at a station in Belfast. He was arrestedon suspicion of sexual offences against children in Northern Ireland. He is currently helping police with their inquiries.

Both Leicester and Villa have made statements regarding the severity of the new probes and are poised to co-operate with police.AVilla spokesperson said: “The club co-operated fully with the authorities during the investigation at this time.”

ALeicester statement read: “We take the current matter very seriously. At present, however, we have no indication of any allegations made against or in relation to Leicester City Football Club. Wewill, of course, investigate fully in the event that any further information comes to light.”
