WHERE'S MY HUSBAND?

---"the local Chinese say the richmen who lived on Muntri Street kept their mistresses here, hence, the name Sai Cheng Hang or Love Lane"

That's the story behind Love Lane (Lorong Cinta) where our choice of accommodation in Penang is located ---OLD PENANG GUESTHOUSE.

OLD PENANG GUESTHOUSE  at 53,LOVE LANE 10200 Georgetown,Penang

Old Penang Guesthouse is a restored pre-war building located strategically in the historic city of Georgetown. It combines comfort and heritage while staying on a budget. The design integrates the old with the new, modern with historic to ensure an authentic experience. It retains its original mosaic-tiled floors and inner courtyard where guest could lazy around or have a meal.Every aspect echoes the history of the region---even its wooden shuttered window. It's picture perfect!

The place was suggested to us by Doc Gelo http://docgelo.com/ (I am really lucky to have somebody in Penang who can give reliable advice.I felt more secure and confident).

The male receptionist in charge of the front desk was very friendly and helpful.Checking in was hustle free.I presented a printout of my reservation, paid the remaining balance and all was set.

The moment he handed me our room key and towels,he gave me a map of Georgetown and began telling me areas of interest.I was very delighted because it really was a big help for somebody like us who were set to stay for less than 24hours.Yes,less than 24 hours! So you can imagine how simple tips could save a lot of time.

Old Penang Guest House is small with only 65 available rooms.I can remember that well because we stayed at room #16 on the ground floor. There 4 types of accommodation, standard twin, doubles en suite, double room and dormitory.Surprisingly spacious for the price range if I could say.

It's a very cheap way of staying in Penang for only RM75 per night for a double room.Female Dorm costs only RM28 while Mixed Dorm is at RM25.

I booked our accommodation online and they only required me to deposit RM7.50 to reserve the room.Paid the remaining balance when we checked in.That only amounts to approximately 1,050 pesos inclusive of breakfast of coffee and toast.

You heard that one right, for RM75, you get free coffee and toast for breakfast!

Wifi is free although I noticed that the signal was weak.I didn't mind really coz I availed of Globe's $10 per day unli-surf roaming promo via its local partner Maxis.A little frustrating for my wife though who is a Faceookook addict coz could hardly upload her pictures or update her status. If you can some important sites to check, there are two computers at the lobby that you can use.

Restroom and Shower room are shared and they are not spotless clean but clean enough. The hot and cold shower is a little tricky to control but what is important is that they have hot shower.

Love Lane is an inner street dominated mostly by Guesthouses so it's kinda peaceful at night.Security is not an issue here as everybody seem to be friendly.I hardly noticed any security guard in the area  which is a sign that the place is safe. The guests during our stay were equally respectful and mindful of others. There are a few tables in front of the building should you want to drink or socialize with other guests.

Staying at Old Penang Guesthouse is like staying in your own house.Comfortable, not pricey and best of all, safe.I will stay longer the next time I come back :)
