In Dynamics burst on to the scene last summer with their debut EP ‘Circle’, five tracks of catchy as hell angular alt pop with a liberal dose of heavy guitars that garnered them rave reviews from across the board. ‘Questions’ is their second EP, and it quickly becomes apparent that a whole other side of the band is on display here. Where their debut relied on breathless riffs, arena sized choruses and hooks that hammered themselves into your brain, ‘Questions’ takes a much more subtle approach.

The songs are slower (although no less powerful) which lets the riffs and melodies shine through, Beau Boulden’s exquisite vocals in particular are allowed to reach new heights. The hooks are still there, except this time they are less obvious, the kind you find yourself singing unexpectedly, unsure of where they’ve come from.

Of the four tracks on offer here, the heavy riffs and jerking groove of ‘An Atheist Can’t Be An Atheist’ and the confusing rhythm of ‘Waking Life’ are standouts, but the whole EP shows that In Dynamics are much more than they first appeared.
