Will the PS4 system require a system software update at launch in North America? How will system updates work post-launch?

Upon the North American launch, the PS4 system will require a system software update (version 1.50) to add several new features. After you connect to the internet, PS4 will automatically start downloading v1.50 in the background. During this background download process, you’ll be able to play Blu-ray Disc games offline.

Will I be able to install system software update 1.50 via a USB drive?

Developers will choose how these features are used, if at all. In the example of Killzone: Shadow Fall, the touchpad is used to assign different commands to the player’s OWL drone in the single-player campaign.

What can users do with the light bar incorporated into the DUALSHOCK 4 controller?

For developers that choose to support it, the light bar is an immersive and versatile addition to the DUALSHOCK 4 controller.
