Aurangabad: A herd of elephants killed one Nigar Alam, a resident of Ajania under Deo block in Aurangabad district on Saturday morning. According to eyewitnesses, Alam was working in his field when a group of 14 elephants trampled him to death.
A police team from Deo and officials of environment and forest department led by divisional forest officer (DFO) Sudhir Kumar Karan rushed to the spot soon after getting information. Forest officials said they were making efforts to chase away the elephants.
A herd of 14 elephants reached the area from Jharkhand about a week ago and destroyed habitations, standing crops and several houses.
