The Independent National Electoral Commission will commence the distribution of permanent voters’ card to eligible voters in Lagos state in August.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Adekunle Ogunmola, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Lagos in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

He said the exercise would last for three days.

“The distribution of permanent voters’ card will take place in Aug. 22 through Aug. 24.

“After that the continuous voters registration will commence immediately on Aug. 27 to Aug. 31,” he said.

The INEC boss said that the continuous voters registration would afford eligible registrants who were unable to vote in 2011 the opportunity to do so.

He said, “Those who have matured into voting age of 18 during the last registration exercise and those whose names are not in the electronic register will also be opportune to register.”

He added that the exercise would also provide the commission with the opportunity to ascertain authentic voters.

Ogunmola said that the cards of those who double registered would not be printed, adding that their names had already been de-registered from the system.

He said that double registrants would have another opportunity to register.

He said that those who deliberately double registered and those who the commission directed to register the second time would be allowed to re-register.

Meanwhile, INEC held a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of political parties in the state to brief them of its plan for the 2015 poll.
