Project Light Up Nigeria, a civil group committed to seeing Nigeria achieve steady electricity power supply and well lit-up streets, has said it will be appraising the services of the new private owners of companies unbundled from Power Holding Company of Nigeria- power generation and distribution companies.

This is one of the highlights of the second edition of the group’s Nigeria Light Up Awards coming up in November this year. The first edition was held in November 2012.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, the National Coordinator of Project Light Up Nigeria, Mr.Frank Aja Ukpabi, said the award would afford Nigerians, whose votes now count, the opportunity to appraise the performance of elected public officials in Nigeria before participating in another general election in 2015.

He said the power sector projects of the various states and local government areas as well as that of the Presidency would be uploaded on their various pages on the group’s site www.projectlightupnigeria.com for Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to view and also assess.

Ukpabi said this year’s awards which has the theme ‘Power Reliability and Industrial Development in a Third World Country,’ “will also appraise the services of the new private owners of companies unbundled from PHCN.

The aim of the award, he explained, was to encourage Nigerians in the public and private sectors who had distinguished themselves through projects executed in the power sector to do more as encouragement, the world over, is known to lead to more achievement while also positioning the voting Nigerian public towards voting for performance in the 2015 general elections.

Ukpabi said some of the award categories available this year are: Governor with the highest number of streetlight projects for 2014; Governor with the biggest state power plant; State with the most successful rural electrification project; among others.
