DUTIES:
•Maintains an orderly and clean specified area following general instructions regarding the tasks to be performed.
•Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy industrial powered equipment.
•Removes stains from a variety of surfaces such as rugs, drapes, walls, floors, and fixtures by use of chemicals and cleaning solutions. Washes and cleans windows inside and outside of building.
•Performs seasonal tasks such as the following: cuts grass, pull weeds, and trims bushes. Picks up litter from immediate area outside the building.
•Removes ice and snow from sidewalks, entrance ways, and other public pedestrian areas in and around the commissary.
•Assists in special preparations for displays, customer appreciation sales, holiday sales, or other promotion activities in the commissary.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Per OPM Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c/index.asp, the applicant’s experience, education and training must show enough knowledge, skills and abilities to demonstrate the potential to successfully perform the duties of the position. Under this system, how applicants gained their skill and knowledge or the length of time they have spent in a line of work are not as important as the fact that they have the required ability or potential to do the job. This job has one critical element, called the screen-out element (SOE). In order to be considered minimally qualified for the Custodial Worker position, applicants must meet the screen out element. Applicants who clearly fail to meet the lowest acceptable requirements in the SOE will be rated ineligible without further review of their application.
Applicants who do not receive two points on the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
Examples of qualifying experience include:
• Working as a janitor in a retail, office, or warehouse environment.
• Uses machines (floor scrubber, power washers, and floor buffers) along with other tools (e.g. buckets, mops, cleaning cloth, cleaning solutions, squeeges) to do the job.
Conditions of Employment:
•Work Schedule: 2 POSITIONS-1 Part Time not to exceed 48 hours biweekly-1 part time not to exceed 16 hours biweekly
